Tottenham are now strong favourites to sign James Maddison, with the Leicester City midfielder preferring a move to north London ahead of a switch to Newcastle United.

I wonder whether Maddison (or others) may have a nagging doubt in the back of their mind about Newcastle. Surely the spending & 'ambition' is going to continue ramping up and whilst he might be Howe's cup of tea, how long before a bigger name manager wants a bigger name player in his place.
Now I'm not saying we're a stable environment for any player, pretty much the opposite these past 4 years, but it may work in our favour. Also, he doesn't have to live in Newcastle and spend every day at their shack of a training ground.

At the moment players like Kane , Sonny, Ndombele, Perisic all earning a lot more at Spurs than the highest paid at Newcastle . Going to take awhile for Newcastle to catch up on wages due to FFP, if Maddison wants big wages he more likely to get that at Spurs than Newcastle. If he wants CL then he has to head NE .

Because CL footy is never a reason...
That's mostly BS. Obviously some players' only criteria are CL teams, but the impression we're led to believe that is the deciding factor for most players is - IMO - not true. Funny how Chelsea and Liverpool still attracted top players even when they weren't in the CL. When we finally got there, we were told by doing so, we would attract the very best. Most of the time that simply didn't happen. Money talks. Had Newcastle finished outside the top 4, they would still attract top players that 'always wanted to play for them' and are 'excited' bt the project.
