Tottenham could make a shock move for Luis Figo after Harry Redknapp admitted he had spoken to the Portuguese during a golf tournament in the Algarve.

The 36-year-old Inter Milan midfielder announced his retirement in May but Redknapp claimed that he was told the player was still considering his future.
If Spurs could persuade one of the greatest players in the modern era to prolong his career it would represent a massive coup for Redknapp.

And he will use his friendship with Sir Bobby Robson to coax Figo to White Hart Lane. Figo and Redknapp met in the Algarve during the Sir Bobby Robson Golf Classic tournament.

"We talked, since he is obviously a great friend of Sir Bobby Robson,” Redknapp told A Bola. “Obviously we talked about football and he told me he had not yet decided anything about his future."

Tottenham, meanwhile, are believed to be ready to pounce for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.

The future of Roman Pavlyuchenko could be key to any arrival of a new front man but it is understood that Spurs feel more confident that Athletic will be in a position to negotiate the sale of their 24-year-old marksman.

Any potential suitors will have to meet each player’s buy-out clause, and Llorente, who has a contract until 2011, has a €30 million breakaway agreement attached to his term

I would not personally be opposed to this can play the odd game on the left and teach the young guns a thing or two

Figo would be amazing. Obviously he wouldn't be the player he once was, but would still be a brilliant addition to the squad.

Plus, I'd buy the new kit without question if it had Figo's name on the back.

No thanks, past it and over the hill. Won't be doing himself or anyone else any favours if he joins.
I did hear a rumour today that Jermain Pennant maybe coming in on a free, not sure about this either but maybe worth a gamble as there will be no fee involved.

I think it would be a good thing we have enough youth, and they wont come with much more experience than Lois Figo

"..'ere Luis, we're signing a bloke called Downing if the Chairman can knock the price down low enough, problem is that his ankle's knackered and he won't be able to play 'til Christmas - fancy doing a stint down the left at the Lane for 5 months?"

    "Si".

Is this a joke, forward please not two steps back

Did we not sign Malbranque and he was injured at the time.

As pointed out already it will sell a few shirts if nothing else.

Seriously though a coup I think not. Wheres the coup in signing a player who's best days are long gone and is considering retirement?

no thank you. a legend of the game but figo is now WAY past anything like his best. onl bring him in maybe in a coaching capacity to help our youngsters
  9. nferno
id take him for teaching people like gio and rose how to play effectively on the left and give us a bit of magic every now and then when he comes on as a 80 min substitute. IF its a free why not?

I'm sure we have talked about LF for a few years now (since his decline LOL). The thing is this is not a coup. This is a desperate stretch at signing top class. Except he isnt anymore.

Anyway, if you read it carefully the article intimates something that is not spoken about. "He doesnt know what he's doing in the future" could mean absolutely anything.

More to the point... I'd much rather have Malbranque on the left rather than downing or a 36 year old figo...

No to Downing and No to Figo.

...wish we would have held onto Steed in the first place!

Figo? No thanks...crazy wages, crazy deal!
