If we do, then Levy has to.

We're moving into a bigger stadium, the TV rights are better paid and the players have proven themselves consistently by getting themselves into the champs league 3 years in a row.

I'm spurs through and through and if I was a top player playing for the club, one of the best in the league and had showed commitment to that point, I would consider leaving if Levy wasn't prepared to pay my market value.

Levy is always championed as a great businessman. Let's hope he realises that top talent is deserving of top pay.

Says who?
Nobody apparently, pure journalist's speculation.

'May be' says it all.

First things first, we have to actually qualify for the CL.
Let's not forget that 3rd & 4th in PL only puts us in the play-off round, so no guarantee.

As usual they fail to mention the incentive schemes in place that mean they are on top wages but have to put some effort in.

I think Levy has it dead right with contracted wages and performance related bonuses. We don't know what our players actually earn but I don't think they struggle to put beans on their toast. Long contracts on hyper wages could potentially cause us a lot of problems.

He won't increase the basic wage just because we got into the CL again. The players would be on bonuses for that. According to ITK in January, or thereabouts, he was going to be giving out new contracts this summer on the basis of the extra income from the new stadium. The latter is a known, qualifying for CL every year is not a known and it makes a big difference!
