TBF it's pretty dumb of them to put our almost new badge in their logo.

What did they really expect, when we spent god knows how much on designers for it?

If they'd kept the old badge then maybe, but seriously?

I think we've handled it quite well from what I've read

That is when they started, they changed their badge at times to follow Spurs.
Until now they have apparently avoided directly stealing a protected image though I guess. Hence the problem now. The cockerel they use is the exact same one on the THFC badge/crest. No getting around it. Its not even "similar" for argument's sake. It's a direct lift. The club had to act legally or they could open up a world of trouble for themselves. The knock off merchandise of football clubs is already big enough etc.

I think it would be good PR for Levy if he pays for their new kits for them once they change their badge.

It would be a nice gesture, certainly.

But not good PR, sadly. At least, not good PR on anything other than a small, local scale.

Because while the national press will jump all over a negative story like this, they wouldn't give a positive story - such as you're suggesting - the time of day.

.......Unless it involves kittens being cute.

This is an upshot of trademark law. If you don't actively "protect" your trademarks, you lose them. So if THFC allow Fleet Spurs to use the Cockerel they are effectively surrendering their trademark on the image.

I would understand it if it wasn't a tribute to Spurs, or if Spurs weren't 75 years too late! Spurs should be looking at some compromise, like giving them authority to use it by licence for a nominal sum.

Why should Spurs do anything of the sort?

And what do you mean that Spurs were 75 years too late? The current crest is only 10 years old. Why on earth did Fleet Spurs feel the need to change their old crest to include the current Spurs crest?

They have only themselves to blame and the club is trying to deal with this issue as sensibly and considerately as possible.

Really don't understand what you're not getting about this... How many responses do you need telling you that Spurs could not let this copyrighted and protected image be used?

Because they followed the club for 75 years, as the club changed so did fleet. As I said, 75 years late. However the club can be magnanimous and allow them to use an older crest. That would seem reasonable.

I guess it's been a slow week for things for the press to slag Spurs off about.

A PR nightmare in the Happening. It could have been handled so much better. As Spurs supporter I am a bit embarrassed.
