Here's a test:

We're on a counter-attack, with one of our attacking players leading the charge and other players in support.

Who do you most trust with the ball in that scenario?

For me, it's Kane, Eriksen, Son, Dele, probably in that order. I have less confidence in Erik to score or make the right decision in terms of a key pass.

I'd still trust him more than Sissoko of course. But that's not the test.

All those players are better than him, I doubt most would argue against that. I still think Lamela has a key role in the team when we're still fighting on 3 fronts in March.

No issues with him trying high risk moves - my point is that they don’t normally come off. And I am not criticizing him in any way based on today or some specific games. Just saying that his strengths are not what people typically perceive them to be.
That's the point about high risk moves: there's a high risk of failure, but if they come off they are priceless.

All of those players, including the blessed St Harry of Kane, have screwed up of late. The only two players you expect to remain ice cool are Kane and Eriksen. That doesn't make them more skillful than him, so I am arguing against that. And I very rarely argue points that I'm not right about.

Yeah I was surprised Poch did that, should have kept him on IMO.

Poch has previous. He Did this to harry Kane all of last season. It’s tough love - no room for sentimentality... will make him work harder to get a hat-trick next time...

Back from the game and not too much to say, we were just far better than Huddersfield deserved the win probably by more, no poor performances we were just very good and I was bloody freezing.
I would like to pass comment on Huddersfield though, they tried to play football, were willing to fight for the right to play and particular kudos to them when we went two up, the last fifteen minutes when they could have let their performance drop they didn't, far from it they played and fought with huge spirit right to the end. Can't help but think with that spirit they will stay up, they certainly deserve to.

I agree with you to an extent. I just thought they didn’t have the quality for this level. They looked miles off and turned up to not lose by too many rather than squeeze out a draw or a lucky win like some teams do.

I really enjoyed that.

Whenever a side comes to sit back and defend deep it's always nice knowing that eventually they will leave gaps and give us a chance or three.

Son was unplayable at times today and Moura looks like he will be a handful against any defence. Kudos to Harry who though not as hos sharpest put in a cross for Sons second

Just back from the game, that was the definition of a comfortable win. They never troubled us and we managed to break them down quite often. I'm pretty sure once we had the 2 goal lead we took our foot off the gas massively and just saw the game out. I'm glad Dembele and Son didn't play a full 90 as I really want them fresh for Juve.

Not sure how Lamela is getting criticised, did I miss something? The game was already pretty much dead by the time he came on.

Also from where I was sat I thought Aurier actually had a really solid game and didn't make any foul throws, improvement!

Thought the ironic cheer on his first successful throw in was quite comical - glad it didn't carry on though.

Not only that. Harry chested the ball into Alli's path before the latter played the ball to Son for the first goal. Harry is proving to be a great all-round forward instead of being simply a goal machine.

As I said - skillful, very skillful. But not creative and therefore not what we look for in the attacking third against a park the bus team. Touch I disagree. Also his passing very limited and lacks creativity. Very few goals, very few assists. Very intense runner helpful for the team and Poch's philosophy.
You do know that his stats for assists before he got injured were pretty good, don't you?

Something I saw on twitter today that made me laugh but also summed up for me how Kane is so much more than "just a striker"

Swedish Viasat talking about Kanes assist: "I'd give Kane £10 for his thoughts here, cause he has to somehow calculate "okay it's Son over there, his top speed is 31km/h, he has 45m to the goal, the wind is 8m/s southwest, I have two CBs to beat" All this in 1/10 of a second"

It's going to sound like a weekly dig at Sissoko but it's not intended that way. I do think it's a slight shame that due to Sissoko's existence that Harry Winks wasn't on the bench today. Winks was very poor the other day, but today in a game that was won and easy on a better pitch with first teamers it could have been a nice chance for him to get the 20mins Sissoko did to get a bit of rhythm and form into his game.

Loved the look of Winks when he first came into the team and really thought this season he was going to be starting often in CM, but it feels like he's becoming a distant member of the squad and I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't here next season which id find quite sad.

It sounds pretty much as it reads.

Because our attack was so scintillating today?

If that urban myth was in any danger of dying (which it isn’t ) that game was a pair of defibrillators cranked up to max inserted up it’s arse and all the way directly onto its heart.

They were so fucking laborious it was painful.

I think questioning Sissokos right to exist is taking it a bit too far :ROFLMAO:

On recent form, I’d put him in front of Dele, and in general terms (but not on form) in front of Son for making the assist

Is it just me or was Son not his usual self today?

He looked like someone had just told him he got a parking ticket both times he scored

Could not agree more. Surprised at the reaction to my initial assessment earlier in the thread. Clearly a lot of fans of Lamelas abilities - whatever they are.

Whilst he isn't a world beater, Lamela definitely has a place in the squad. Someone mentioned that he actually brings more defensively as a forward and I totally agree, which is why he is extremely useful when going away to the big sides. Against Juventus his aggressive pressing was one the catalysts for our dominant performance. However, for games like today where that isn't as important, I think we get more joy out of using Son and in the future, Moura.
