It just really makes you realise, how brutal a competition the champions league is to be honest. You need to be at some level to come through three 2 legged ties against good opposition and to then still win the final.

I'm honestly bemused by some people on here, and by members I thought more of. We were owning a game, and lost it in 10 minutes after a opposition tactical substitution. We lost this game, Juve didn't win it. I'm not slating our players or the manager but this is the kind of game we need to win to "progress", winning is about atttitude as much as what goes on in the match. we can't go on being the *well we play football the right way and it's nice to watch*. If we want to progress, I don't see the problem admitting this. We will learn and move on.

Also need to have a lot of luck, we've not had much luck with the draws to be honest but that's how it goes, Liverpool are in the Quarters despite playing Europa level competition.

I've come to the conclusion that the way to play in any game is as if you are 1 nil down, whatever the score. You keep to the game plan but keep the mindset as if you can't afford to concede another goal and keep pushing to score to get back in the game.

Maybe I'm too simplistic, or maybe I'm a bit pissed, but it strikes me as though the most important aspect of most game is having the right mindset or attitude. The important part of that is to not ease up on the intensity if you get ahead. My impression is that Juve lulled us into a false sense of security and we fell for it. It was their experience that won the game, not their ability, or our lack of it. The important part now is to learn from the bitter experience.

Keep the faith, COYS.

Did anyone see Chiellini's interview? Basically he said they knew that Spurs do not have a history of going through in big games like this so they believed they would go through or at least have chances.

Unfortunately this is the difference with a team that has won lots of trophies both historically and in recent years, we're not at that stage yet. But the more big games should only add to the learning experience.

That's the problem. Not one player stepped up today when the going got tough. We were the better team for 160 out of 180 minutes this tie. But in those 20 minutes when things fell apart and mentalities were tested, we collapsed.

Hugo, while I love him, is not a captain. Michael Dawson, Scott Parker, hell even Younes Kaboul. Those are captains, those are leaders. Those are the players who'll run 100 yards across the pitch to defend a player in a confrontation, those are the guys who will yell at you, who will huddle up the team and motivate a side to run through walls. It's not good enough just to lead by ability and what you do on the field at this level. And while our squad improves skill-wise every season, we never end up with a general on the field.

There's no leader in the side. I can't even think of one in the squad. Juve have about 5 of them. That's the difference.

Lol you called Younes Kabo a leader hahaha...come on man. Yeh we lost, but if younes was playing even in his peak we would of been out by the first leg. Dawson too for that matter.

This is why people get annoyed at our players being called a "disgrace" and "shameful".

Son is out here almost fucking crying for spurs and is called a "disgrace". I'd rather lose this game 100 times with our "legends" then win with mercenaries like the scum have and get a shiny piece of metal for it.

I absolutely cannot understand all these cries of "shameful" and "disgraceful" coming out tonight.

It makes no sense to me at all and it's fucking pathetic. Some fans seem to have absolutely no sense of context or judgement of what they've seen.

This, also us scoring didn't change anything for them. They knew they still needed to score at least once possibly twice.

There's a reason why they have won 5 serie a titles in a row. And also made CL finals. Juve are a fantastic team, we pushed them all the way but ultimately were just a bit short.

That's the hurdle we have, competing with these top teams and winning the matches at the business end when it really matters. It's not an easy hurdle to overcome.

I honestly feel we would have been better off going 1 down, as nonsensical as that sounds. Our mentality is so much better when we are chasing rather than holding onto a lead

Exactly, how was it shameful that Pochettino just happened to be out thought by Allegri for 5-10 minutes?

Fucking hell calling it shameful is putting it on the same level as the Newcastle 5-1.

Lineker, Lampard, Ferdinand, Gerrard. At half time they had a good laugh at the 4 stamps on Son. 'Typical Italian defending' apparently. That's a red card - two probably! Also the elbow on Dier was disgusting. Not even a free kick... It got worse in the second half and the ref totally bottled giving any second yellows. All the pundits were banging on about 'experience'. No. Sorry. It's cheating. The ref was a joke

Yeah ridiculous but tbh after watching that video I don't feel as bad. We've actually got players who feel it just as bad and care just as much as us and to me that makes up for a few knucklehead fans.

Then again if we’d sat back and invited more pressure and they scored 2 that way Poch would be slated for being too negative so not sure I agree really. Our game management was fine for most of the game except about 5 minutes and most especially after they got back to 1-1 we should’ve at that point shut up shop a bit an cut their momentum at least for 10 mins or so.

I don't agree what I said was we did not need to push hard for the second and cms did not need to push up and press juves back line like they did and our full backs should have dropped a few yards and then play on the counter which we are quite good at
I think we played naive football as soon as juve got a goal up they killed the game we should have done similar and would have then probably got the winner and dropped there heads.

I also didn’t understand why we were trying to take every free kick and throw in as quick as possible all game. That made no sense

Because they were struggling with the pace of the game we were trying to keep them off balance and worried about us.
Don't really think that' what cost us mate am gutted but ultimately I didn't think we could win it this time around.

Unbeaten finish to the season will do now and a fa cup would be great.

Ps scaberpool to get battered by juve or madrid would be nice as well :sneaky:

So frustrated. Just got home from the game. We have got to become more clinical in these big games. Yes the referee allowed them to bully us second half and should have been harder on them, but we’ve got to be able to manage that if we’re going to win things. We fell into their trap second half and got cruelly punished, but ultimately we had the game and let them dictate it when it really mattered.

Until we win something this is fact. But it’s also bollocks. Winning breeds winning. We did better than last year. And the year before that. The Champs league is a gravy train. And the Juves and Madrid’s have had a seat at the table for 20 years. That 17 more years experience than we have. They have all that experience. And experience counts. Yes we lose big games. But every time we do we learn. And we get better. There’s. No shame Im what happened tonight. No shame at all.

No doubt he’d be singing a different tune if we’d taken the chances his defense had provided us.

So, this is what happens when top players tend to win big games. For example, you could be winning against Djokovic or Federer, even be on match point, but the moment you start thinking you've won is when you lose. That's what happened tonight. We also have to look at how Juve defend and learn, because the standard of defending in the EPL is low.
