The ref was shocking today but it prob was a free kick and we can't keep collapsing after a bad decision by the ref. To break into the top 4 is hard because we won't get the big decisions in the key games. If we're going to do it we have to win games like today. Should've been 9 men, but against 10 with 20 mins to go we've got to give it a better go than we did today. United were poor, we were worse, there's not much between the teams, apart from Fergie's 20 years of buying the ref.

Agree, we can't keep collapsing after a bad decision by the ref and in fairness i don't think we did collapse today, their third goal came because we over commited trying to get an equliser.

one teeny, weeny consolation for me, is the fact that the goons got spanked by the inferior manchester team.

at least we lost to the best prem team in history.

no shame in that.

I thought it was a clean tackle, so will be interested to see MOTD tonight. The ref was diabolical and missed almost every nudge in the back that we got. How Evra got away with a talking to after Kicking Corluka and then headbutting him, I'll never know.
Presumably Harry brought Hutton on for a bit of pace, but he was woeful.
Why do we always struggle against 10 men though? We never make the numbers count!
Why do we just pump long balls to Crouch? I guess we had a few changes forced on us, so had to use different tactics, but all in all, it was a very frustrating day!

This isn't the best team in prem history, the current united team are average. I've had enough of taking pleasure from the goons, lets have a succesful spurs team 1st.

Spot on

It deffinatly seemed a clean tackle from where i was sitting.

Also think that Crouchy must have felt very loved up today the amount of hugs he was getting from the utd defense (most of course where missed by the ref)

Also agree that it was a very frustrating day.

It's good that he can see the problem, but why didn't he try and change it during the game?

Why didnt he make sure it was avoided before the game? We've been guilty of playing the long ball in every game that crouch has come on. But yeah, hopefully this draws a line under hoofing it up to Pete.

To be fair to Harry he was in a difficult position as far as team selection was concerned.

Cudicini, Huddlestone and Keane have all performed and it would be very difficult to drop any of them after their start to the season for players who are only just coming back from injury (Gomes and Jenas) or we have have just signed (Krancjkar).

Against a team who move the ball as quickly as United I would have preferred to see Jenas and Palacios in the middle and played Nico on the left as he is used to the position and should be able to hold/distribute it better.
I would always go with Gomes over Cudicini as I think he's a class act.
As for Crouch up front I felt he played well today but why mess with a winning formula in Keane and Defoe? I'd rather see the two smaller men running at Vidic asking questions than the old fashioned hoof.

But as I said at the start it is unfair to drop players who are performing unless there is a good reason. Today there was one so I expect to see a different starting eleven when we come up against Chelsea.

Afgraid there was a good reason - Hudd always gets shown up for his lack of pace when we play against teams that pass the ball quickly & accusately. Hopefully Harry now knows that.

Hudd's a good player but needs options. Not sure Keane offers much on the left and Crouch is more an O'Hara pass than Huud

The ref was shocking, and Utd played well, but we let them play well.

I think we really missed having Keane up top. He would have sat on Scholes to stop him passing, like he stopped Mascherano against Liverpool. The midfield was opened up far too much, and the number of times I saw a Utd striker stood in the middle of our defence completely unmarked was absolutely horrifying. Keane would have given us another man in the middle and allowed us to press high up the pitch. Instead we pressed in poor areas and not as a team. Against poor sides who sit back you can get away with it, but against the skill of Utd? We just got ripped apart.

With Crouch upfront, and with the early goal, we should have sat with ten men behind the ball. When we do get the ball, go wide to get an angle for a cross field ball up to the big man. Its agricultural but ti would have been more effective than the way we tried to play today.

Despite how well Utd play I really hate them as a team., Such a bunch of little bitches, whinging and moaning at anything and everything. The ref never got a handle on the match, gave them so many free kicks, and let Utd dick him around. Very poor display, and not surprising. I really hope they dont win the title

Twas a poor day at the office for Spurs today. Our internationals looked more jaded then theirs, particularly Palacios who was still playing in another time zone. Without the creativity, movement and ball holding of Modric, Hudd took a step backwards and his distribution was right off the mark. Hutton was so abysmal when he came on he should be fined by the club.
But..even without Ronaldo, ManUSA Corp play on a different level to Spurs - a level we are still trying to clamber towards.
Hopefully a week with the whole squad training together should see us right for another victory over Chel$ki. COYS!

huddlestone and keane

Thought that huddlestone and keane were pathetic today (wilson not far behind them, can't pass to save his life).
Palacios is so overated by the majority of spurs fans and pundits.
Chelsea will beat us easily next wek unless Harry sorts it out. FACT.

The ref was shocking ... and let Utd dick him around.

He sent one of theirs off which gave us something of an advantage IMO. He also got in the way of a pass early in the first half thereby making Scholes look like something of a ****, air-kicking and falling on his fat arse, which is another plus in my book. But he did seem to have a pretty poor grasp of what constitutes a foul and what constitutes a foul throw, which is unfortunate.

I thought there was a huge difference between their mid field and our mid field.

Our passes didn't hit their targets and we gave up possession far too easily.

Evra's an absolute rotter. Anyone else agree? I just despise him, and he did himself no favours today in my eyes.

Well, at least this highlights some of our weaknesses to Harry. It's not a terrible thing to lose a game - esp to last year's champions - but the most important thing is learning from the performance and bouncing back the next game, like Liverpool have after us and Villa.

Against top-class midfields that move the ball quickly, we need to start Jenas and Palacios. Hudd has own strengths, but too often his weaknesses are exposed against top 4 sides. Jenas and Palacios worked well against Chelski at the Lane last season, though Chelski were unusually poor that day.

Hopefully by then Palacios has recovered from internationals (he's always rubbish the next game afterwards, or at least has been the last two seasons). His distribution is inconsistent, but from what I've heard, Niko at least is quite good at keeping possession, and Jenas tends to have high passing percentages (mostly sideways passes, but sometimes we need a simple spell of possession against strong sides).

I have no idea why we continue to play three strikers, as it didn't work last season with Pav/Keane/Defoe. Crouch didn't embarrass himself, but I still prefer him or Pav as a plan B, at least until we stop automatically pumping the ball to them. Keafoe's quickness theoretically works better in a more open game. I actually thought Keane did well on the left against Birmingham, but he's become worryingly inconsistent and looks like he lacks confidence atm. Needs some goals I think, but he won't get them playing out of his natural position.

Niko should slot straight into Modric's position, perhaps Gio as an unpredictable impact sub or Bentley on the right with Lennon moved to the left. I'll note that Niko is rather slow and rarely contributes defensively, certainly not to Modric's extent, so I'd hesitate to start Hudd in midfield with him there.

We also need our first-choice defenders back, pronto. They formed the foundation for our good form the second half of last season, when we had our run of 1-0s. Let's hope the ITK about Woody and Dawson back in training is true. Gomes did very well against Chelski both at home and away last season, though I can't say that Cudicini deserves to be dropped on this display.

I think it's time we started bullying the refs more. All the top 4 teams do it, and the slight advantage it gives them could lead to a few critical points. Put more psychological pressure on them or we'll start at a disadvantage.

I hope this loss inspires a much-improved performance against Chelsea. Like I've said, one poor performance among other good performances doesn't say much, especially when we've just had so many out on international duty. It might just be a fitness issue, combined with an unfamiliar team selection. The most important thing is resisting a possible crisis of confidence and bouncing back in the next game.

If I was being bitter and churlish - and I am - I'd point out that what we should have chuffing done is not sell our best ball-winning and utilising midfielder for a derisory 4 million quid. He would have been better than Wilson OR Hudd yesterday as he's better at tackling than the latter and at using the ball than the former.

Still, we never played him while he was here, so what can you do?
