If they're going to be making an announcement soon they must have a team in mind, but I can't see an NFL team moving to London for at least another 4-5 years, which would leave the team in limbo. It could be us just hosting games rather than sharing with a team.

Surely it would just be to play a game or two here every year?

The NFL are committed to hosting three games a season in London for the next two seasons with the possible eventual aim of having a London franchise that would host at least 8 games a season. If Levy can pull this off it'll be great for the club as the current NFL games at Wembley generate £3m per game for the FA.

But the franchise would get that money, and would just pay is an amount to use our stadium 8 times a year

It's going to be a mess that's for sure. The NFL doesn't want to expand because they don't want to cut up their share of profits any more. And there are teams that could move.....but the threat of moving tends to stop such moves pretty quickly. And on top of that, Los Angeles needs a team and the two franchises with a potential to move are the Rams and the Raiders, which have both been Los Angeles teams previously.

Could well be three teams in LA - Rams on their own and a joint bid with Raiders and Chargers all gaining momentum although Kroenke (Rams) have the edge it would seem.

Chargers need to move I think

To be honest I'm not sure the ins and outs. All I know from what I've read is that the Wembley games generate £3m per game in revenue for the FA and the Jacksonsville Jaguars, who get to keep ticket revenue and an unspecified percentage of the corporate sponsorship, get about £6m per game.

I think the stadium can only have 4 non football (English) events per year!

I think it would require permission from the local council to stage extra events. Arsenal applied to Islington council to increae the number of concerts it can hold from three to six. Besides, if we did a deal with the NFL then the rules would get changed to accommodate us as the Mayor of London and the Government both want a London franchise.

Any chance it being with the Pittsburgh Steelers?

No chance. If the Steelers play at the new stadium it'll be as the away team.

I think people are getting carried away with various scenarios etc
It has been mooted that NFL want eventually stage 8 games a season in London. That could come down to Spurs just hosting the games. Not an NFL take over or part ownership etc. it will take time to get up to 8!games per season but just may be at 4 a season by the time the stadium is built, which would fit in nicely with current non-football events permitted. Who knows but maybe another application years down the line from here, tonincrease this to 8.
NFL may pay costs of the extra pitch, changing rooms etc plus maybe a premium towards the build, then a retainer each year to Spurs. Naming rights - anyone's guess atm.
Supposition & speculation of course, but I can't see NFL chucking a Billion or so at Spurs.

True, our existing planning consent for the stadium includes the following condition:

17. The number of single day major non - association football events per annum (including music concerts)
shall be no more than 4 of which no more than 1 shall be on Sunday and no more than 1 on a Bank Holiday
(where a major event is a single day event attended by 10,000 visitors or more).

Reason: In order to protect the surrounding residential properties from noise pollution in accordance with
policy ENV6 of the London Borough of Haringey Unitary Development Plan 2006

TfL referenced this condition in their comments relating to the new basement application last month, and seemed to be specifically hinting at the enlarged changing rooms/NFL link:

TfL has assumed that these minor changes proposed will not allow the stadium to be able to facilitate any long term scenarios that were not considered at application stage with the exception of tournament football as stated by the planning statement. It would be beneficial if this assumption could be confirmed by the applicant. Nevertheless, in that context TfL supports that condition 17 of the extant consent restricts the number of non football events per annum to four and is not proposed to be amended or removed. In summary, TfL and based on the assumptions made above TfL has no objections to the proposed s73.

I guess that any deal with the NFL is therefore (initially at least) to play the international series games in Tottenham - currently 3 regular season games per year.

I assume the club will make an application for an amendment to condition 17 at some point to allow the scope for having a resident NFL team at the stadium in future, but there is by no means any guarantee that any such application would be successful.
