I hope we do not install red seats at the request of the nfl or potential sponsor.
That would be appalling.

Other than that, it seems strange that the nfl are seemingly happy with such a small stadium -
they can easily fill wembley so why didn't they bung Levy (another?) £100k or so and make it 80,000 capacity?

This is a good question. NFL will still be holding games at Wembley so they can't be that unhappy with the pitch/facilities there'. There must be something undisclosed making this whole thing worth pursuing for the NFL.

Something undisclosed? They've made it clear that they want to see how it goes and it may lead to more games and possibly a franchise. Why then would the NFL want to be restricted to just one venue, Wembley? Not only is Wembley not ideal for the game, but like any single provider, it doesn't give them much of a bargaining position.

If I were the NFL this is exactly what I would be doing: trying to get a better deal than Wembley, but keeping Wembley in the competition.

We are the 6th richest in enland though.
If you want to be successful and attract top players you need cl football. If it wasn't for oil money we would have it.
Or dodgy red decisions / crying scouser a and Chelsea wankers

That looks like a pretty crap article to be honest. No quotes or evidence, more thoughts, apparently and rehash of very weak rumours.

"The word out here"? Jebus, has he been slipping 20s to some guy on a street corner to get what the word on the street? "Yo, that Levy man, he straight out whack, ya get me?"

No mention of figure, so someone must have got cold feet? Yet signed the agreement in the first place? It's almost like we are in a transfer window, and have stadium contractors at various levels to sign up, and we don't want them to think we are cash rich and ready to be rinsed. Nike have disappeared into the ether, but from where? Rumour on fan boards? Two game minimum you say, its almost like the NFL is based in a different country and wants to see how well Tottenham does in drawing in the fans.

Then the final comment about selling the club, don't get me started, but it shows where this "guest" blogger is coming from.

This guy on Twitter is contentious to say the least but he has a fair number of followers for his blogs. I found this guest blog link on his page. Interesting slant to recent events...

That is a good read and makes some balanced reading to all the recent Levy worshipping lately.
I agree with theboyhotspur that that a 2 game minimum is not much of a prize in itself.
But if Levy has rowed with the nfl over their take per game and ticket prices and details, I doubt that is new to them. They were never going to announce a London franchise at this stage.

It is all about the sponsor - no sponsor no stadium. If Levy has rowed with the likes of nike, then that would be a disaster, but if lewis felt levy was out of his depth, then I think he'd pull him out and start again. Lewis is not going to let a deal of this magnitude be fked-up.

But there is nothing to worry about yet. As others have said, a sponsor will want to see the stadium at least half built before they'll want to be publicly associated with it.

Nothing earth shattering in that article.

I am sure Levy got a comeuppance of sorts, but I doubt it has long-term impacts.

Like him or not, Levy would not be out of his depth negotiating with anyone.

My driver to the airport this morning said this job (driving, "I just love this job man") was a vacation from his normal job: marketing for the NFL. He said during the season it's his job to make sure interviews happen at the right place, right time etc. (think the MOTD's post game interviewer's boss) and thus knows a lot of players and coaches along with NFL near future plans--including new teams and stadium development.

He was mostly chatty about the NFL in LA (said new stadium here is costing $1.3B ) but obviously I had to throw in the recent Tottenham news; he said it's incredibly exciting as he and others from the NFL were blown away from the European response when he was there last year. When I said "sounds about two games a year" he responded that they are pushing to have a team over there in roughly three years. His general tone was one of such that the NFL was in disbelief at the potential market that has been under their nose this entire time and they're moving quickly to make the most of it.

Tl;dr met a marketing NFL guy, told me London (insinuating us) will be home for an NFL team in three or so years

Opens a market to 740m new customers just from europe. If they get the timing of games right asia will open up as well.
This move is all about growing the nfl. They have seen man utd v liverpool get double the viewing figures of the super bowl. That's just a league match.

Some unverified info to pass on, (from a mate who is a Spurs fan who's brother in law is working on the new stadium somehow) not saying I believe it but passing on in good faith;

Was told that we have tied up a 10 year deal with the NFL because a new or existing team franchise is planning to move here long term, with possible investment and naming rights deals attached. Was told announcement should be in the next two weeks.

If an existing team then that is narrowed down by geography and ownership (some have fingers in EPL pies already).

As I say, not sure if there's any truth in it but I do trust my mate.

Probably Jacksonville, there's been rumblings that they would be the team to re-locate to London for a few years, can't see it being in 3 yrs probably closer to 10. Can see Canada & LA having a franchise before London

"Here" as in to our new stadium?

Yes our stadium as their new home. This was discussed by the media and considered unlikely in the short term but the NFL is trying to open up as a market and I have to say we are doing lot of extra work on the stadium for only 2 games a year for ten years......maybe only 20 games.

The logistics of moving a team here are immense. It may be Roger Goddell's dream but he may not even be commissioner long enough to see it through.Far too early for a team to make such a committment.Naming rights will probably be determined from the general nfl association rather than a particular team because any team that did re-locate is probably in poor shape anyway.
