By the way, did anyone else notice that if you click on the 'coaching' hyperlink it takes you to an advert for noodles? Is someone trying to make some sort of point?

For what it's worth Greg Stobart said:

Ignore Spurs' denials, definitely sounded out a number of managers including Van Gaal, Pochettino and De Boer

No "official" approach..... That just means they haven't gone straight in with a contract offer. Can easily mean they sent someone over to sound him out to see if he is interested.

Strange Spurs felt the need to make a statement. I might stick a tenner on Pochetinno, as if FDB was the main man, we would have just kept quiet. We might however be mindful of our bargaining position - always have another candidate to use in negotiations. Seems to be Levy's preferred method.

The club are denying make an approach to Ajax to be allowed to speak to FdB, so we would be in serious trouble if we had made anything but the most tentative approaches.

Club statement:
Reports that we have made approaches to other clubs regarding coaching staff are wholly inaccurate. We have not contracted any club regarding coaching appointments.

As you can see, no "official" caveat to rely on.
I don't believe it but that's what the spurs line officially is.

If we want de boer, Levy should do what ever it takes to get him. The fact is you cannot always play hardball in business and football otherwise you do not get what you want. The fact is we needed a manager 5 months ago not a spoilt child we have in charge at the moment.

If we keep Sherwood my active supporting of Spurs will come to an end, this season has already convinced me to give up my season ticket. I know someone else will just end up buying it and Spurs will not care but I am just fed up with Levy and Co. They have zero vision or forethought and only think about instant results. The biggest problem with the club is the infrastructure has been ignored for so long. The fact is we have a useless coaching system, anyone good on our medical and ground staff gets poached, these are things that are needed for the long run. Spurs also show very little loyalty to anyone so we get the same in return.

I believe we haven't made approaches to other clubs regarding coaching but we have almost certainly sounded out coaches representatives about whether they would have an interest in becoming our new Head Coach.
