Tottenham are leading the chase to sign Atletico Madrid captain Maxi Rodriguez.

Midfielder Rodriguez, 28, has a wealth of experience playing in the top flight in Spain and is regarded as one of the best wingers in La Liga.

Harry Redknapp is keen to strengthen his squad during the summer and wants another midfielder as uncertainty surrounds the future of Jermaine Jenas and Didier Zokora.

Jenas has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, while Zokora is demanding showdown talks with Redknapp over his plans at White Hart Lane.

Rodriguez was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool last year as he is close friends with Fernando Torres, but the transfer never materialised.

The Argentine international is keeping all his options open and says he would love the chance to showcase his talents in England or even Italy if Tottenham do not come through.

Rodriguez said: 'I have already received offers but I didn't feel it was the right time to leave the club as they have looked after me.

'I am not ruling out the possibility that in the future I could try something new with an English or Italian team.'

Would be a good signing. Daily Mail so probably not true but I am sure he would be a great signing.

would be a decent signing, scores some great goals, and it'd be nice to have one or more Argies back at Spurs.

Scored a blinder in extra time at the 2006 world cup against (I believe) Mexico
  4. Chedozie
I think this guy is a great player, can't see him coming here though.

This won't happen, we don't need a right winger for starters

.... unless either Modric or Lennon want to leave

Not sure we could get the three of them on the pitch at the same time without it being defensively frail

    Modric Maxi Lennon
    Palacios
  7. Chedozie

Good point. Rodriguez is a top player though, a faster more skilful version of Tony Galvin, if such a player could exist.

Maxi Rogriguez exploded onto the world stage in 2006 World Cup, which earned him a move to a top European league with Atletico Madrid, but since then it seems he has not quite lived up to the expectations...However, an undoubted talent and perhaps in need of a fresh challenge - but probably at the top, not at middle table Spurs with only Europa Cup place as realistic target next season...

We should go for Ever Benaga who is also at atletico, this boy is a mix of gattuso & pirlo. On his day he is the truth.

Banega was on loan from Valencia. I would imagine Los Che will want rid. Would take Banega over Maxi

That was probably one of the greatest goals ever scored!

Wasn't petrov moved on to make room for Maxi on the LEFT?

Pretty sure that's what happened which would make this a terrific signing.

He was at Espanyol from 2002-2005 and moved to Atletico before the 2006 World Cup.
