While I agree with you totally, Verts new contract is likely to be worth in the region of £15M thats a basic of £70,000 over 4 years before any bonuses. So these new contracts do all add up and while its not a transfer fee its still money that needs to be paid from somewhere. New contracts for these players plus the stadium money shows why are transfer activity needs to be VERY smart.

Based on my fictional figures your correct, but I would way £70,000 would be a resonable sum, granted he could get more from a bigger club. At 28 i think a 4 year contract would be about right, with maybe an option of a 5th.

I have heard his representatives have indicated that he would be amenable to a new deal. Previously he has been unhappy at the club mainly because what happened under Tim Sherwood.

Vertonghen has been excellent this season, a couple of seasons ago he seemed a bit pissed off to be here, so it would be great if he's decided to commit himself again.
