Tottenham have reportedly rejected an approach from Burnley to sign Eric Dier on loan. After nearly a decade at the club, Dier has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Spurs this summer.

Going to be difficult for him to fight for his place if there isn’t sufficient space in the squad for us to be able to register him.

Another great example of how some of our fans support our players - man, every thread turns into slagging off our own players so often, the negativity is staggering.

I'm going against the grain and hope that a player who's been with us through thick and thin, for nine years, finds his form in this new system and sticks around.

Problem is he doesn't have the speed and mobility to play in this system. Its not about form

Me, an idiot: players are allowed to fight for their place and that's good actually

Expert fans: I shall invoke the phrase "high line" and thereby put an end to the right of any CB who isn't also an accomplished sprinter from even bothering trying to play in the team

Bit pointless if he's not registered though isn't it? I'm not saying that will be the case if he sticks around but we can only register 17 NHG players and up till now I'd say Dier is very much in danger of missing the cut.

That's fair enough, if he doesn't make the cut for any squad list then I'd be sad to see it but that'd be that. I don't have any sway over that though so, until it happens, I'll support him.

Just bums me out that so many are so keen to give players grief. If he'd downed tools or whatever, sure, but even when he says he's dedicated to the team he still gets pelters. Weak sauce imo.

I'll see your mobility point and raise you a loose and casual playing out point, which often leads to dangerous turnovers, his peculiar shot blocking positions and the Beckenbauer diagonals that end up in the crowd.

There's clearly a stampede for his signature isn't there..

Burnley are taking the piss with a loan bid, if they’ve made one, they can well afford to buy him if they want him.

Where is he being slagged off? It's nothing to do with form. He's isn't a great CB in a back 3 or 4 in a defensive system that you think would suit him and mask his flaws, so in a high line where he's being asked to pick a forward pass under much greater pressure is a recipe for disaster. Most people realise this and want him moved on to free up space and money for better players. Your positivity in this case is more delusional.

Uh huh... guess the definition of "fan" has changed.

And I'm delusional.

aaaand I'm over it.

Positivity is fun, wouldn't you like to try it? Wouldn't you like to try being me for a day or two? I know I would!

It's admirable that he wants to fight for his place, but it seems he is a long way down the pecking order. Perhaps we should have offered him and Hugo the chance to go on a free this summer? Shows a bit of class to good servants and gives them the greatest chance of finding a decent club.

Sure being a fan involves supporting everyone on the pitch, which I'll always do. But it's also wanting your club to make good decisions, hence why we're annoyed if we sign crap players.

Positivity is different to being realistic. Were you positive when we signed Rasiak? "Let's all hope he can score 50 goals in a season". That's not how it works.

Would I rather be you? Probably, yes. But that's not a choice I have.

I was as it goes :D

Dunno if other team's fans are like it but the flood of negativity when a player goes off the boil for even one half of a match is getting a bit overwhelming. If a player isn't performing I don't immediately want them sold, I want to hear the crowd sing louder for them, give them something to play for, especially players who have been in the first eleven for a long-ass time.

He's worn the shirt with pride, been through a lot for the team and It'll be a shame to see him leave if he goes. That's all really.

MegaNegativity is partly the product of social media, or like a hyper malicious medieval gossip (in that case things never change. It’s allied to a bizarre level of anxiety. Even our f***ing car is anxious, the hysterical beeping when I am ten feet from another car…. ) Returning to topic, specifically, Dier will work for someone, somewhere, but not for us. And that’s what the Honda told me too.

Misinformation and made up stories don't help either. It wasn't that long ago Dier deleted some social media thing to do with the club. It was because of this that and the other and Dier was all of a sudden, at least for a short while, a pantomime villain. Poor bloke was probably just clearing all the horrible stuff people post or whatever.

Remember the utter bollocks about Harry Winks? Poor lad worked his nuts off and some.made up/ uncorroborated rumour made half the fans hate the poor kid. Boy was, perhaps limited post injury, but always professional. But the bad vibes were insane at times.

I don't think any of this slagging off or 'player hate' is particularly new. But it's certainly been exacerbated by instant access to information and the need people have for 'news'.

It's easy to get sucked into the bad vibes.

And to address another point above, some one said about being positive around the Rasiak signing and expecting goals. Why wouldn't you be hopeful or positive? That can also be realistic.

Only one year on his contract. Surplus to our needs. He only cost us £4mn. Unless we can get him included in a swap, with a club he wants to sign up with, a loan is the best option to get him off the non-HG list.

Good servant of the club. Deserves respect. But Ange seems to think we need a different approach and he's the direction we've chosen.
