Tottenham have started practising penalties after training in a bid to end their spot-kick nightmare.

Tom Huddlestone missed the chance to put Spurs in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup when he missed a penalty against Bolton on Valentine’s Day, and top scorer Jermain Defoe has squandered three spot kicks this season.

But Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is firmly of the opinion penalties should be taken by ‘whoever fancies it’ at that particular time.

Redknapp said: ‘We have been taking penalties after training sessions, but it’s a different pressure in the game and you can never replicate that.’

The Spurs said he had not decided who to nominate for the job in the FA Cup replay against Bolton on Wednesday – a match that could, of course, be decided on spot kicks – but added: ‘I am sure that there are enough players who can take penalties here. I will decide the order tomorrow night.’

This should not be left to chance.... Take a leaf out of Pearce's!

Practice, practice, practice: technique, a set routine and a psychological approach.

It's not 'who fancies it' because it's the whole squad, especially in a shoot-out.

I get the impression that we are way behind on this, and we need to catch up NOW.

If in doubt at least put your foot through the ball! It's all the more frustrating when we miss with tame side footed efforts - unless you're confident of sending the keeper the wrong way then there is no excuse not to put your laces through it!

    Agreed.
Do the same thing over and over and over until it becomes as natural as breathing.

Hope they can stay late next training session to practice corners.

Does someone know the last game we scored on a corner, particularly off a header?

Stable, locking, the, bolted, door, has, horse, the ,after.
Re-arrange to form a well known phrase or saying.(League- wise)

    Still: never, than,late, better(cup-wise)

I raised this a couple of times.
I can't find the statistics on corners but I doubt we have had less then 80 corners so far, in the league and the only headers I can remember were Bassong in the first game of the season against Liverpool and King against Portsmouth

My memory is not the laser sharp weapon it used to be so I bow to others more alert than me.

Didn't Corluka nod one in from a corner at Bolton away in the league? I think the most recent is Dawson against Everton away in December.

I am hoping we have been practising defending them :) do you remember the days of every corner being a toliet moment :)

Or until goalkeepers can read you like a book!

Practice, practice but vary where you aim for

why do people train at all - as it never replicates the real thing

i know penalties are different - but are they that different

i expect us to lose out on 4th - if we lose out by one/two points - that everton miss will hurt us for years - maybe decades
