If De Ligt is worth 50 mil then Toby is worth 80 mil+.

There is a reason Man U would want Toby over De Ligt. Toby is the finished article and one of the finest defenders in the premier league.

Sanchez had a great first season but we missed Toby's distribution and ability carry the ball forward.

This all reminds me of the joke about what's the difference between a magic wand and a policeman's truncheon. One is used for cunning stunts and the other is used for stunning ****s.

Toby has been brilliant but we have done fine without him for most of the season. I just wonder if this is the best use of funds. Are we buying him to replace Jan in the near future? How about Foyth?

I think De Ligt looks like a future world class CB. The kid has worn the captain's armband several times for Ajax this season, which given his age is quite impressive that he has been viewed as that much of a leader. I agree with you that the fee is high, but well worth it based on the player's potential. Plus, we haven't gone wrong yet buying CBs from Ajax (or any players in general recently). Additionally, I think De Ligt gives us the versatility to play 3 at the back, as he could likely play alongside Vertonghen and Sanchez (and of course he is familiar with Sanchez from their time together at Ajax). It would be very exciting for the club if they could get the deal done sooner rather than later.

Foyth also looks like he can be a good CB for us. I feel like he has been forgotten about with all the talk about Toby leaving and us trying to get De Ligt. I was impressed with Foyth last season when he got his opportunities to play, he looked so calm and composed on the ball for his age. Hopefully he gets some games in the PL next season as I would love to see how he performs against PL competition.

As far as replacing Jan... I think De Ligt, Sanchez, and Foyth have the potential to replace Toby and eventually Jan (though I think Jan has at least 2-4 more good seasons left with us TBH). If CCV kicks on for us and Brooklyn Lyons-Foster continues to develop in the academy over the next 2-4 seasons we could potentially have pretty decent depth at CB.

It's important that we get him, because then we'd have Jan, Sanchez, De Ligt, and Juan would be Foyth.
Introducing our new head scout. Even has the right coloured clothes, he's so commited .

His injury was a blessing in disguise in this respect. We saw that there is life after Toby. Foyth is still a little off yet. I'd say second half of next season or maybe even the one after.

I think it made us use Sanchez in a CB pairing we may not otherwise have used him in.
I always felt the idea was a back 3.
Also think although we did ok, it could have been better.

Sums it up to me.

We Ligt is 18. It's insane money.

I think we should be concentrating our resources on addressing the most glaring deficiencies, which is our midfield.
