From Eurosport...Tottenham have launched a €10 million (£6.5 million) bid for Celta Vigo's Nene, according to Galician sources.

Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli attended the match with Atletico Madrid and is believed to have discussed a deal with his Celta counterpart Felix Carnero.

Nene is aware of the interest from the North Londoners, who were beaten at home by Newcastle United on Sunday, but has refused to comment on his future.

The Brazilian wide man scored in the 3-1 defeat to Atletico and has hit the net five times this term.

After playing for Santos, Mallorca and Alaves, the 25-year-old could be tempted by a move to the Premiership.

Spurs have been looking for a left winger for some time although Steed Malbranque has been filling the position since recovering from injury.

  3. masterblaster80
from what i know, this guy is quite good, a typical left winger with pace, skills and vision

no c.ronaldo though so dont get too excited

Incidentally, we're reported to be about to but Ryan Babel from Ajax. Is he any good?

Have also seen the news linking us with Babel and I would love this to go through. I am an Englishman living in Holland and my friend at work is a huge Ajax fan. He never stops going on about this guy and from what I have seen he looks really promising. Check the link to see for yourself

Had a look at Nene on Youtube. Looks pretty useful. Nothing amazing, but good technique. However, these are just clips of him at his best whilst at Porto I think.
I am of the opinion that it is not neccessary that we get a left winger as I think that with support from a quality left full back/wing back, Malbraunque can more than do a job for us. I think he can be a massive influence for us with his creativity and work rate in midfield. As Malbranque has gradually been getting fitter, he has shown that he is willing to track back and can (and I believe will) weigh in with his fair share of goals.
Despite my great belief in Malbranque, If we must buy a left winger, I for one hope it is Aiden Mcgeady of Celtic. I know he is playing in a "lesser" league, but his technique, two-footedness, and first touch, looks top class. With him being two footed, and able to play on both wings, himself and lennon could switch within matches, causing great problems for defenders.
I have seen Mcgeady play a few times but here is a youtube link for him

Babel is the sort of player we should be looking at to take a step on from where we are at the moment, we started doing this by getting Berbatov and securing Lennon, Ledders, Robbo, Daws and THudd, although i'd like to see Yound at The Lane, for 8 mill surely Babel could be brought?! Davenport isn't up to scratch, we've given him time but he aint proved it, Davies is stronger and more of a leader, so we should go out of our way to get him.... Davies, Babel, and Bridge would take us a step further in our bid to break the top 4.

I agree with BigBearJol - would rather see a left back sign than a left winger. It seems to be working playing Malbranque there, but if there's a problem, it's a lack of someone overlapping when he cuts inside. Lee overlaps, but then cuts inside himself.

I do like the look of Assou-Ekotto going forward, but for now he's callow defensively. Gareth Bale would be exciting, Wayne Bridge is an obvious option, and Leighton Baines would be a decent signing too. Or (more unlikely to come) Gareth Barry or Matt Taylor.

I like the look of ryan babel. I had him on my football manager 06 and he was brilliant. A great prospect lets get him.

Babel would be an awesome buy but I dont think he wants to move from Holland at the moment. Nene looks like a useful player and we could do with a leftie playing on the left who will stay out wide. I'm not knocking Steed as he is getting better and better but it would be good to have some balance.
  13. 2dareis2do
    As you say,

    Great technique.

    Babel?
He looks good on You Tube, no doubt BUT is RIGHT footed!! And doesn´t want to move.

Best Left foot in the PL is without a doubt Gamst Morten Pederson.

Now he would be the ´perfect buy´

If you though Babels compilation was good check out GMP

VERY FUCKING GOOD! GREAT INSIGHT CHAP!

When we win trophies we always have a Scot in the team, Loved this video, he seems to have it all, two feet, great tricks and hungry to get back and fight for the team.

    Please FORWARD to Daniel Levy.

I would even go so far as to say, swap Keano for him. :bigeek

    More feedback and discussion please....

p.s I´d just tried to sell yoo GMP, forget that get the wee man Mc Geedy, made me mc Giddy!
  16. renniks
    anyone

who cares, buy justin edingburgh, atouba, ronny rosenthal just someone to at least improve the problem. Short term fix at worst. just to secure european football, is needed. Otherwise we might lose lennon, chimbonda, defoe and all these other talents that we have. Then it could revert to the dark ages of the players mentioned in the first sentence.

You're right. It's out of the question he will leave Ajax for any club atm I'm afraid.

He's just only 20 although he's in the squad since 17 and actually they're on talks to extend his contract till 2011.

But I quite agree he would really be an asset to us upfront on the left, right or in the centre. I've seen him playing several times here.
    Shame....

 oops, should have been replied to ChrisW81 post

Must say that I have a concern with the whole left back, left wing issue.

Some people are saying that Lee or BAE are not good enough at LB. They may well be completely correct. However, with the system we currently play, is there any LB in the world who is not going to be left isolated on counter-attacks?

I believe that with an out-and-out LW, we will not have the exposed LB problem, meaning that Lee / BAE will probably be able to perform their own role, and not that of two players. people would, coincidentally enough, begin to applaud them.

So, whilst Steed is doing a great job at the moment (one of the few bright lights last night), I don't think he should be employed on the left. Play him in the middle or on the right and get a bloody left footer. Last night, there was even a left footer to take an in-swinging free kick. Just ludicrous!!!!

This is of course if we keep playing a 4-4-2. At the end of the day, I really do believe we need to be playing a more balanced side.

COYS, let's get back on track tomorrow night in the Cup.
