I get that we need to be installing the right candidate, therefore it can take time, but surely if you knew you were getting rid of Sherwood months ago, then surely your plan to find the right candidate would also have started months ago? Especially considering a major tournament like the World Cup in Brazil is taking place a month after the season finishes.

We would then be at a stage to have the manager in a position where he can get a better handling of the squad before they scatter to the four-winds with either their respective world-cup squads, or on their holidays.

Unless there were forces at work behind the scenes that prevented the board from making a more immediate appointment that we were unaware of, then this should have been done around the same time as LVG being made Man Utd boss.

Despite the lengthy road taken to hiring the new Head-Coach, i am swung by the ambition & exciting football philosophy of Pochettino. In the various media outlets, Southampton's James Ward-Prowse is quoted as saying that, "It would be a major blow to lose him - all the players love him." What i also thought was interesting is that he goes onto say, "I'm the fittest I've ever been in terms of the running he makes us do. We do two or three gym sessions a week that involve a lot of running and running with resistance. He demands a lot from us, and it is hard work, but it has been proved to work." It bodes well that he places a high premium on a high-intensity style of play. I'm encouraged and excited that we will aim to be a lot more dynamic; acting more on the front foot if he is indeed appointed.

If i believed in luck, then i would wish all the best of it to whomever gets one the most difficult jobs in football.

Either will do. I don't care. I've had enough. Toss a coin. Oh. I know.. Eeny meeny... No. Scrap that. I would put the two of them up against each other in a sack race. A very apt and Tottenham sport.

Agree with both above. We should've had his wrapped up by now to give the manager time to get to know the players before they go to the WC.

If we don't do well this season I hope we don't use the 'no pre-season' excuse again. I'm sick of hearing it

It can only be taking this long because
1, Tim could have turned out better & got us ECL.
2, we thought we had LVG waiting, should Tim fail.
3, Man Utd then became available and a more interesting proposition for LVG.
4, there was a chance Ancelotti could become available. RM had already lost the league, so losing the ECL final could have seen him sacked.
5, now it's a two horse race between FdB & Pochettino. Different mangers with different styles and experiences.

Installing Sherwood was a haphazard decision, instigated by Sherwood and Ade who probably sold Levy the Earth and probably the moons of Jupiter thrown in with a cherry on top. Unfortunately, extreme measures are now required to undo the damage caused in December.

This is just like the freakin' force in Star Wars - balance must be restored, and it's gonna be one huge pain in the ass to do so!

So you're saying we should hire Yoda.
I can just hear him in the press conferences, all inverted sentences. People will be begging for Sherwood.
Still. It's an idea. And Levy will enjoy having someone shorter than him at the club, light sabre or no.

Yoda's backward sentences are still preferable to what we got from Sherwood in press conferences...

"Crap Jedi Obi Wan is... Until prove himself he will, light sabre he no longer will have! F**k Him!"

or

"Much of muchness our Jedi are... suck, I do!"

I have no idea what's going on. These are all valid points but we need a manager. Of these two I'd pick FDB, although I think Benitez should be in the mix too, but if it's only these two in the running it could have been agreed a while ago which makes me think something else is going on. One name I haven't seen linked that I assumed I would have is Hodgson. He could be looking for a new job soon. Just wondering if Levy has thought of this. I'd go de Boer then Benitez but Roy does have pedigree.

Let's hope one of Pochettino or FDB is appointed THIS WEEK. It would be great to give the new man time to identify targets and get to know the staff at the club etc , as early as possible.
I'm slightly nervous about Pochettino. He had a lot of brilliant youngsters to work with , and expectations at Saints are relatively modest.
It's a crucial appointment for Levy, he can't keep getting it wrong. I don't envy the new man having Baldini overseeing player purchases either.
I guess expectations are a little lower than for some time? That might give the new man a bit of time to shape things?
Pull a rabbit out of the hat please Daniel!

I hope it's not David Moyes! Alan Sugar and his man-crush of Alex Ferguson and evident influence over the affairs of our club might just be that stupid.

No, we had to wait till Saturday to make sure Ancelotti was unavailable.
Benitez was always unliked while at Liverpool. It's only since he did ok at Chelsea that any spurs fans are prepared to even consider him.
And Woy? Really? If you want to take our football back 20 years, then he's your man. He was the FAs safe option, when compared to Redknapp. Look what he did at his last big club job. And if we're looking for Simone long term, then he's way too old. No thanks.

I don't think it's likely to be Woy, the bookies have basically said it's Pochettino. My point was Woy is someone with a good track record who has managed England, Inter Milan and Liverpool. Whether he's popular at Spurs or not that's more on his cv than the other candidates. He's English, possibly available after July and I said with all the speculation, that he's not been mentioned. Ancelotti was never available, no more than Messi was going on strike to get his dream move to us. I preferred de Boer if he was willing to turn down the champions league to come to us. When Levy sacks Pochettino I suspect Roy will be mentioned early on, though at that time I'll suggest de Boer or Benitez again. I've never disliked Benitez the way "he was always unliked at Liverpool" - I thought he did quite well when when he won the champions league and la Liga both with smaller teams. Pochettino may be young but it's a huge gamble was he's won nothing. I have a feeling this debate could start again soon since I'm tempted to give Levy this job.
