Tottenham will offer Ryan Mason a role on Ange Postecoglou's coaching staff, but the two-time interim head coach could seek a manager's job elsewhere.

I think a couple of seasons under Ange would be very useful for Masons future in management. He’s got plenty of years ahead of him to go on his own.

With Ange giving such a big role to the staff I think it wouldn't be the worst thing for Ryan to stay and have an input.

Were going to need him too, someone who knows the Premier league will be really helpful if Ange is bringing in his assistant and first team coach.

Historically Ange brings very few staff with him, so unless Mason wants to leave, you’d imagine he would have position.

This is what my wife calls a “plucky Brit”, just sits around hoping for an opportunity to fall into his lap.

Mason should be applying for managerial jobs if that is where his heart lies, not putting out cones for each new Spurs coach that cones along.

Needs to put a couple of extra clubs on his C.V. for the greater experience or he will always be classed as Levy's go to "Yes" Man

I think it's best for both parties for him to cut his teeth as a 1st team manager elsewhere. I fear that if Ange gets off to a rocky start and Mason is right their waiting in the wings that he could hit the panic button quicker than he otherwise might. He's too much of a comfort blanket

Ideally, you'd give him two years with Ange learning his style (succession planning), two years managing in the championship, and then if Ange leaves in 4 years time we'll have that ready made replacement who earnt his stripes, learnt the new Spurs style and would be 4 years older and wiser and ready to step in. Ideally.

Time to step up and step out
and cut his teeth somewhere else in a lower division.

That's pretty much the opposite of a plucky Brit

I bet they will. Makes it far simpler/easier to fire another manager if the heat under the board gets a little too high yet again.

Ryan Mason turns 32 next week.

He could spend two full seasons working under Ange and still be younger than Chris Hughton was when Chris started his fourteen-year stint as a coach and assistant manager for us back in 1993.

And Chris still had time after that to manage three teams in the Premier League, alongside a couple of Championship clubs and an International team.

If Ryan stays with us, does the hard yards, builds up his experience and puts the word out that he's interested in the right offer, then he'll get a chance. Scott Parker did. Kieran McKenna did. Michael Carrick did. Michael Duff did. Then it's all up to him.

Alternatively, if Ryan leaves, sets out on his own and looks for a lower-league team to hire him, then what's to say it'll happen for him. John Terry did the same in 2021 and received the square root of fuck all in terms of offers, leaving himself unemployed for two years before having to go back with his tail between his legs to Dean Smith to help take Leicester down. Now, admittedly, it couldn't have happened to a nicer ****, but, still, this idea of stepping out into the big wide world and shouting 'I'm available, everybody, come and get me' is for the birds.
