Never gonna get overturned. It was a stonewall red. The elbow is clear, as is the upward movement of it. Very irresposible of Sanchez

There was no sharp jabbing of the elbow, more an outstretched arm, whereas Richarlison was expert in making sure there was the right kind of contact... a three match ban for that, compared to Kabeseles hack on Kane getting a yellow, would show the rules are simply wrong.

Won't be overturned. The FA go out of their way to support the Refs and it has to be an absolute travesty to get it overturned. This was a bit soft and could have been dealt with by a yellow card but the FA will back the Ref up.

Isn’t there a further penalty if an appeal is turned down?

Not worth it. Anything can be argued but this one was pretty correct imo

I think what they're considering appealing is that it wasn't violent conduct, yes it was cynical, but if you're trying to be violent with your elbow, you clench your fist and fold your arm.
The ban would only get extended if the appeal was deemed spurious, and remember this is the panel who saw nothing wrong with Lukaku kicking out twice at a bloke off the ball last week.

No intent at all, the movement of the arm was one that all defenders are doing to command the space, feel and hold the attacker.

One desn't exclude the other. This is about Sanchez's red card. I think most on here had that feeling of "Oh dear, he's off" when it happened.

First bit- don't follow. Second, you're probably right. If it had happened on the opposite side, away from the benches and the fourth official, he might have got away with a yellow.

Sanchez's red doesn't exclude at least 2 reds for Watford.

My feeling was shocked it was anything more than a yellow.

Me too. It wasn't an 'elbow' as such. His arm was straight which is totally different to a pointed elbow and a deliberate contact. Even so, the FA will support Atkinson inspite of a very inept performance. Violent conduct is worth contesting though so it depends what the charge is.

I wasn’t surprised to see the red. Stupid place to do it, not a dangerous area and right in front of 4th official and benches. I’d be amazed if it gets overturned. Probably doesn’t deserve a 3 match ban but those are the rules.

It's just a shame the rules, laws actually, aren't applied correctly in our favour!

Can't see how you can make excuses for this - red was the correct decision; it's never going to get overturned (and I think a failed appeal may add an extra match to the ban).

Sanchez was so late after the ball had gone, he was clearly playing the man, not the ball. Led with his arm, straight into his face. Red card.

One thing they look at is whether the fist was clenched; it's hard to elbow someone with an unclenched fist. Flailing arm is different, but for the proper nasty elbow, clenched fist.
