Tottenham told they’ll need to pay premium for January Porro signing – Otherwise wait until summer

Tottenham have been ‘very impressed’ with Porro since their clashes with Sporting in the Champions League. It’s once again said the London side could ‘attack’ the player in the January transfer window.

The Lions know it will be hard to hold the fullback at the end of the season, but losing him in January isn’t part of their plans. That’s why they’re set to demand over €30m to let him go so soon.

RWB is, imo, the most important area to address. If we wait til Porro's contract runs out we could miss out altogether, whereas we have a decent chance of bagging him in January. If it wasn't such an important area to upgrade I'd be less gung ho about it, but if it's who Conte wants just get it done.

His contract doesn't expire this summer (not until 2025). He only signed permanently for Sporting last summer!

Sporting is (reportedly) being realistic about him being sold at the end of the season, but doesn't want him to leave mid-season, so would only agree to a January sale if it's significantly more financially lucrative for them to do so.

This is where Levy has to decide whether getting back to CL is important and have to spend or continue to fuck around with the budget and all. I'm betting on the latter.

30m Euros is what, £25m? Seems a snip to me for a position we desperately need to improve.

It's only slightly more than we paid for Emerson & Aurier (unfortunately, I mean each not combined ?). They were both supposedly signed for below market value on the basis that they were out of favour / not first-team regulars.

I appreciate this is slightly off the chat topic, but what if we pay for Porro and then get Isco on a free as the creative one we all think is missing? I reckon that'd be considered as two excellent Jan windows in a row. No?

Conte wouldn't want Isco, and it's very doubtful whether there's much left in the player.
Will show something pretty at times, but not consistent enough to play for a big club any more.

Which version of Isco do you think we'd be getting? He's done nothing of note for a few years now.

Anyone know why he wasn't in the Spain squad? Odd that he only has one cap when Azpilicueta is still getting games at right back

His release clause isn't a massive amount and we'd presumably cancel Marcus Edwards buy back clause as part of any deal. I think we've got a good chance of getting this done. If he helps us get CL again his fee would pale into insignificance. We could also use Emerson as a bargaining tool with Inter if those rumours are correct.

How would we have a buyback on Edwards when we didn't sell him to Sporting?

IIRC we negotiated a deal during his transfer to Sporting that meant Vitoria kept the whole transfer fee in exchange for us keeping our sell on clause, and Sporting were fine with it.
