The game reminded me of us vs Arsenal under Jol in reverse – when we go hell for leather in the first half, get in front but work so hard we knacker ourselves out too early, and then the second half is just a very long exercise of trying to hold on to a lead. Aalborg looked world beaters in the first half; second they looked Championship class

don't normally do these but.....

Robinson 7 - Looked good, claimed some good crosses an rightfuly got the chants he deserved

Lee 6 - Not good on the right which is strange because he seems to be right footed. needs to stop falling over.

Chimbonda 6 - does good stuff and bad stuff. Is it time to drop himf salty for a kick up the arse?

Dawson 6.5 - when ever i see him in the game he looks like he's all on his own. noticed a couple of times that he is always the last man when trying to play offside. where is the line? defence needs to be sorted ASAP.

Bale 7 - Showed a lot of heart on his european debut. crossing was a bit off but made up for it with his work rate.

Lennon 7 - Always trying to get involved but where is his pace gone? looks slower than usual.

Jenas 7 - Tried hard. wanted to give him 6.5 because of his mazy run and pussying out at the end. not sure why he decided not to try and hit the ball, but instead go studs in at the keeper.

Zokora 7 - This rating is purely for his second half. made some important challenges

Malbranque 7 - Worked hard, as always ran into walls on several occastions but i can over see that this time for the amount of effort he put in on the pitch

Berbatov 7 - To behonest it was a shame to see him go off. 3-2 up and he could actually relax on the ball a bit and maybe have some fun but got taken off. i personally would have left him on. Would have given him a lift and i think he would have gone on to score more.

Keane 5 - I won't mark anyone lower than a five unless they make mistakes. he didn't make mistakes but also didn't to alot of anything.

Bent 6.5 - Nice to get a goal, but i have to give him a 6.5 because he is just awful on the ball. I had no confidence at all with him taking on his man.

Huddlestone 7 - Came on and needed to prove himself. he did this.

Jenas was class...

They murdered us in the first half...

Why does one of our defenders insist on playing about 30 yards behind the rest of the defence every time. Even Chris Coleman could have worked out that all you had to do against us last night was stick someone with a bit of pace up front, get him to move out wide and in line with the rogue centre back and then lump balls to him... absolutely mind bogglingly bad...

Why can't the right footed Lee play right back... he looks completely lost when he plays that side...

Robbo - 6 - Not much he could do about goals
Chimbo - 7 - not good 1st half
Lee - 5 - poor
Dawson - 5 - Really needs start playing with some authority
Bale - 7 - Not to bad, does go to ground in the takle a lot

Zoko - 4- 1st half/7- 2nd half - Not a fan of Zoko 1st showed how poor he normally is in the middle.
Jenas - 5 - worst game for a few weeks, did not look interested, did make a good takle but that was after watching walk past him and do nothing ( was not payin attention.
Steed - 7 -
Lennon - 7 - Did not get into the 1st half but very good in the 2nd

Berbs - 7 - worked hard all night to create things
Keane - 5 - did not have a good night

Hudd - 8 - Passing was superb and really bossed the middle when was on, same as Jenas and Zoko though never tracks runs on edge of box
Bent - 7 - Worked hard and deserved his goal, I think he opens up the pitch for us when on with his runs
Prince - 6.5/7 - Well done, look ed fired up and wanted to be involved, great tackle for y card

I think Bent showed class, and he should start next game together with Berbatov, I think.

Maybe we will have a 3 man defence vs Birmingham?

---------------------Robinson---------------------

---------Chimbonda---Dawson---Zokora------------

Lennon---Jenas---Boateng---Huddlestone---Malbranque

----------------Berbatov----Bent-----------------

Bench: Henville. Cerny, Taarabt, Defoe, Keane

Am a little suprised at the Lee slating. His defence wasn't great but I thought he was quite useful going foward in the first half - certainly more creative than most (I know he's a defender but don't think he defended any worse than our other three).
My guess is that as he was taken off people are jumping on a 'he must have been useless' bandwagon in the same way everyone, who didn't realise he was injured, was slating our best first half player Jenas.

Robinson is still vulnerable to those long range efforts, it seems. Is it me or is he commanding his area better now, though?

For a right footed fullback Lee looks surprisingly lost every time he plays at right back.

Chimbonda is not a central defender and it's painfully obvious. Zokora, however, is not a bad central defender and possibly better in a three man defence than in a four man midfield!

Dawson is getting back to his best, but can't do everything himself.

Bale was excellent, especially in the second half when he was playing as a wing-back. There has been some criticism that as a fullback he gets caught too high up the pitch sometimes but he does have incredible pace and he put in some great tackles as well as those excellent crosses.

Lennon looks like he's getting back to his best too. He really terrorised the Aalborg defence and seems to have regained the confidence he needs to take defenders on.

I know Jenas is a controversial figure. Part of the problem, for me, was that he did what he did well (some good tackles and distribution to wide players) but he was not getting forward into threatening positions in the box often enough. There were too many occasions in the first half when the ball was played in behind Keane and Berbatov and there was this huge gap between them and Jenas.

Malbranque runs hot and cold too. Looks better in the middle than on the left.

Berbatov and Keane both looked like they were not playing to their best, but even not at their best these two are great.

Bent looks like he's settling in at last but needs to be a bit more decisive.

Huddlestone's passing was exactly what we needed with Aalborg getting so many men behind the ball. He can unlock defences in a way that the rest of the team were struggling to do first half.

Boateng is not on the same wavelength as the rest of the team. He needs time.

Robbo - 5 - didnt really make any saves and let in 2
Chimbo - 7 - got forward well whils also playing well at cb
Lee - 5 - very quite, pretty poor
Dawson - 6 - still looks shaky
Bale - 8 - Got forward very well and still looks brilliant in the tackle

Zoko - 7 - Shit first half but very very good second half, looked like tha player we thought we had signed.
Jenas - 6 - I think being subbed at half time sums this one up
Steed - 7 - Wastefull at times, should of had 2
Lennon - 7 - Still cant cross, looked dangerous at times, not his best.

Berbs - 7 - Should be a 6 but did well for his goal
Keane - 6 - Very quite

Hudd - 8 - Did very very well when he came on, changed the game
Bent - 6 - Scored 1 but still looks poor
Prince - 2 - Did anyone else see that shot???? Fuck me what a pleb!!!!

You could get a job writing a sports column for any of the top newspapers, cos they don`t watch the fucking matches either.

Jenas was by far our best player in the 1st half, and him been taken off at half time, sums nothing up, except he had an injury and nothing more.

Robinsons well worth more than a five, still looks unsure at times, but he does appear to have a little more confidence when dealing with corners and crosses. Fuck me give it time, there is a vast all round improvement already, thats clear to see.

Bent looked ok, probably not £16m pound worth ok, but he`s not had much of a chance to show himself.

But Chimbonda is far far to casual and his passing is lazy, scares the shit out of me at times.

Robinson 6.5
Looked confident and had to try to close down player for the second as Lee went walkabout, no chance with the first goal. One poor kick.

Lee 4.5
Went missing at times and a little lightweight looked for free kicks

Dawson 5.5
Stood off the forward too much agiving too much space first half

Chimbonda 6
Unlucky not to score looked comfortable on the ball played it around well

BALE 8
A breathe of fresh air to have such an accurate left footed player in the team. My MOTM

Jenas 7 made some good challenges and a nice run into the box that unfortunately got injured doing

Zokora 4.5 First half 7 second half !

Malbranque 6.5
Brief glimpses of skill got fouled a couple of times without getting free kicks nice finish to score

Lennon 6.5
Great pace put in four or five great final balls but no one on the end unlucky not to score. A few poor crosses but overall looking like getting back to form

Berb 6.5
sublime skill at times looked class a bit tired towards the end two players marking him most of the time

Keane 6
Made a couple of good runs that were given offside, some of his flicks just didn't come to anything

Bent 6
Made some good runs but was alone at times without the support good to see him tuck one in

Hudds 7.5
Passing good and helped the come back with the first delivery

KPB 4.5
Good tackle that he got booked for! Poor shooting hence the low score.

What did he have, 2 shots? or 3?

One well wide, just like Lennon's shot that Bent scored from.
One into the keeper and one wide or just over?

He had a half volley and another shot that almost went out for a throw in, at a time when keeping possesion would have been more favourable rather than give them back the ball. He came on the pitch fairly late so unless he did something special would always get a less than average score. Hope that explains it in more detail
