Yesterday was the first game at the lane I've enjoyed for a long time. Fair play to Everton, for not using the spoiling tactics of so many other teams.

Davies and Fazio looked like they had actually played football before.
Eriksen has some confidence back.
Chiriches has some "moments" but he wants to make things happen and isn't scrared to have a go. We've needed more of that for so long.
The middle two are just much more dynamic than the dawdlers we've had playing there for 3 years.
And lo and behold, our strikers got in the game more.

More direct passes. Midfielders playing off and going beyond front men. And no fear. We actually looked like we could attack with some threat.

On thing that did scare me was how much possession Everton had in spells. We just needed Kane to sit a bit deeper on Barry at times Smarter work, rather than the knackering ball -chasing.

Inc. the Everton game we have 3 games in 7 days. My concern is not a fear of Chelsea but a pragmatic working of the squad to ensure we dont end up reverting the leaden legged home team playing the half pace shit we are trying to leave behind when Palace rock up.

Playing Chadli, Dembele, even Ade, Capoue and co at Chelsea makes sense to me. No lose scenario, arguably our supposed experienced big name players with something to prove. We cant pick yesaterdays side for each of these games and expect this level of effort and performance.

I can sleep soundly in my bed tonight knowing Poch is the coach given that thought process.

Perhaps we should cancel the under 21 game and send them into Stamford Bridge. Very Light Brigadeish..........will do wonders for moral after a seasons best performance on Sunday. I mean who wants to see momentum being built when we can field a second string side against the PL leaders, and by far best team and bitter rival?

Great message to send out, hey Special One we know we ain't good enough so we are saving our best for......................Palace!

Fucks sake.

I understand the point you are making - and in different circumstances I might be more inclined to agree with you. And in Chadli's case I have always been a fan since he first joined, and further I do recognise that he has been one of our most potent goal-threats. And I'm not a first eleven always and only person - Alex Ferguson established his dominance via mastery of the squad system, and since then all top clubs have to have some competency in this regard.

It's just that in this instance everywhere I look on the pitch I see reasons for not dropping players in this particular instance. For instance, the last thing Soldado needed after scoring against Swansea last season was being dropped for the next game; he's got on the score-sheet after a barren run, are you really advocating repeating the process? He clearly benefited from playing with Kane, indeed Kane was at the heart of our performance yesterday. They could be on the way to creating an effective partnership - should we break it up so soon? Kane dropped deep and helped Bentaleb and Mason control midfield - Gary Neville described it as a midfield triangle, a position that seemed to baffle his fellow pundits who obviously knew nothing of his best position as in the yoof. All three are young local lads, running on passion (and it is against the Chavs). Again, why break it up? If Kane was the heart of our performance, Eriksen was the fulcrum of it - what happens if dropping him leads to a disjointed performance? Lennon has just returned and the consensus is that he gave us some of the width, pace, urgency and defensive cover we have been lacking - hell, even BC praised him yesterday! And that leaves the defence and Lloris. Which of them would you drop? Rose is injured and Davies had his best game yesterday. Likewise Verts and Fazio - and what are the alternatives? Dier has hardly played in the centre and, I suspect, needs his confidence built up a bit again. Kaboul - no-one seems to want him at the moment. Chiriches, who still causes heart-attacks especially in the centre and also could probably do with some more confidence building (and, unless Walker is available, which I doubt as he's playing for the under-21's, that would necessitate playing Dier). And no-one is going to advocate dropping Lloris, are they, even if I personally love having a goalie of Vorm's quality as number 2?

Another performance of quality, win, lose or draw, is going to do more for the club than a feeble defeat - so which is more likely with the same team and with a string of changes? Imagine the momentum is we get a win. And, IMHO, as long as the performance is good, any player coming in really is going to know beyond any shadow of a doubt now just what the benchmark is, and we are more likely to get a result at home against Palace with the core of a performing side and a few additions busting a gut to get into the picture IMHO.

I could be wrong, and I do understand the counter-argument - Poch is the one who has to make the decisions and he gets paid enough to, I just hope...he batter the granny out of those Oil-Mafioso corrugated shack dwelling ****s!

Agree-but seen 'em given more often than not. Two games running Harry has been denied a decent shout and yesterday and in recent games the ref is not giving him the benefit when he goes down. Seems like last year he was "winning" those fouls.
Seems a bit like the refs are ganging up on him like they did with Bale.

Sorry M8 - postee before finished and haven't had a chance to edit. What I meant to say was that I agree with GHood that as Fazio's arm was in the natural position for someone jumping high, the ball deflected at the last minute off the Everton player onto his arm from a short-distance and it would have been literally impossible for him to get his arm out of the way, and the ref really didn't have that good a view of it, it would have been literally incorrect to award it based on the wording of the rule, and also based on the refs inability to make a decisive and conclusive decision. But they are very often given - not that that makes it a correct decision. It is one of those ones where if you are the offended party you believe it should have been given and if you are the penalised team you feel quite aggrieved if it is. Again, under those circumstances, the ref shouldn't be given it unless he can see it clearly (unlike, for instance, last season against Citeh, when Rose clearly won the ball and the ref couldn't see it but decided to give a penalty and send Rose off anyway, ****).

For the record, I felt the same about the Kane one. At the time I was convinced that it was. But Kane said maybe it wasn't in his interview as there was a tangle of legs - which you can see when you watch it again. So, another where the denied team feels aggrieved but the penalised team would feel equally aggrieved if it is given). On reflection, I more peeved that Kane didn't hit it early across for Little Paulie :)

He's alright. I've seen a lot of him up close as he's been playing all the cup games. Decent young player. But if I'm honest I haven't seen that much that would suggest he's any better than Rose. I don't particularly rate Danny much as a footballer either, but at least with him you get that directness and his pace. Very good at chasing back and getting in the way. Davies... seems better on the ball, and a lot more suited to the way we set up yesterday. But I see some hesitation with him sometimes, stands off his man too much, and can make the wrong decision in possession. This could be down a bit of a lack of confidence maybe... a question of conviction in his game, and not being quite as strong as you'd like him to be.

But with this run in the first team that might be overcome and he'll improve.

Walker will definitely be a welcome, but the strength in depth needs to be addressed at full back. And the CB situation is a genuine concern to me. Other than Vertonghen I think we're just too soft.

the one thing i see that puts davies over rose at the moment is his composure on the ball... i recall, even in the last 10 mins when we were being pressured and mcgeady got on and coleman was literally playing as a right winger... that when davies has the ball, he didn't just hoof it up.. he tried to play triangles and got us out of danger without conceding possession.

rose on the other hand, would have swung it wildly away...

good fundamentals that was built when he was at swansea.

Thought it at the time and after watching MOTD, but how easily did the everton players go down. Especially Miralles and Baines, and Baines constant whinging, he went way down in my estimation today.
He's just a shit Bradley Wiggins.

Just watched our second goal again - for all Martinez's moaning about Kane fouling Barry in the build up, at the time all he did was wipe his nose and fold his arms. No appeal or anything (and this was only a few minutes after he'd spent ages shouting at the ref after Mirallas had been booked asking why he hadn't previously booked one of our players - the mics picked up Oliver telling him 'because he didn't kick the ball away.') He quite obviously decided it must have been a foul so he could moan about something and make out his team were hard done by.

Man there's just something about this match - I can't stop watching Eriksen and Soldado's goals! Kane kicked ASS in this match! I'm actually feeling pretty good about facing off with Chelski tomorrow... win, lose or tie I'm looking for a tight performance!

yep, he and capoue need to go in the January window...

Arguing Devil's advocat here, but if he wasn't happy at being dropped and then saw a great display from the team, he would be pissed off as he may have seen his regular spot changing, from team captain to bench captain!
