SPURS WIN 8-7 ON PENALTIES
That was Tottenham's first penalty shoot-out win since 1994. An age to wait.
22:02 GOAL - Tottenham 2-2 Hull - Harry Kane

Hull can't hang on! Jermain Defoe plays in Harry Kane and the youngster buries his first goal for Spurs in 22 months. What have you got in the locker now Hull?
The White Hart Lane crowd are jumping now...

21:50 GOAL - Tottenham 1-2 Hull - Paul McShane
Hull can sniff the quarter-finals. Paul McShane climbs well at the far post to muscle in a header from George Boyd's inswinging corner. That has put a dampener on the home fans' enthusiasm.
20:57 GOAL - Tottenham 1-1 Hull - Brad Friedel (OG 53 mins)
Hull's excellent start to the second half earns them an equaliser! Liam Rosenior's cross from the right is met by Curtis Davies, but the ball is going wide until it hits goalkeeper Brad Friedel and bundles into the net. Game on!
HALF-TIME - Tottenham 1-0 Hull

20:01 GOAL - Tottenham 1-0 Hull - Gylfi Sigurdsson
What a goal to get the day's proceedings rolling! This is what Gylfi Sigurdsson is capable of, turning on the edge of the box before firing in a shot off the underside of the crossbar. You don't save those...

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to rotate his side meaning club-record signing Erik Lamela is likely to start.

Danny Rose and Younes Kaboul are nearing full fitness but may miss out.

Hull boss Steve Bruce is still without the injured first-team regulars that were absent for the league defeat to Spurs on Sunday.

Jake Livermore is again ineligible to face his parent club due to the terms of his loan deal.

Tottenham and Hull lock horns again just days after Spurs narrowly beat the Tigers 1-0 at White Lane Hart in a game that was short on excitement, but full of interest post-match thanks to the comments of Andre Villas-Boas.

The Spurs manager hit out at the club's supporters saying that they created a "very difficult atmosphere" that was "very tense, very negative" for his players. It will be interesting to see how those fans react during Wednesday's re-match that could again be a very tight encounter, with goals at a premium.

Hull again proved they are very hard side to break down and they have conceded just 10 goals in nine matches on their return to the top flight.

Given that Spurs have scored just nine in nine, the Tottenham natives may well be in for another night that is not conducive to creating the cacophony that AVB requires

facts.jpg

Head-to-head
  • This is their first meeting in the League Cup.
  • Hull have only won once at White Hart Lane - a 1-0 victory in their first-ever season in the Premier League in October 2008.
Tottenham
  • Spurs have not lost in 90 minutes at home in the League Cup since losing 3-1 to Birmingham City in October 2000 - a run of 18 matches.
  • Before beating Aston Villa in the last round, Tottenham were knocked out in their preceding four League Cup matches against top-flight opposition.
  • They have won the competition four times in 1971, 1973 , 1999 and 2008.
Hull City
  • Hull have reached the fourth round of the League Cup for the first time since 1977-78, when they lost 5-1 at Arsenal.
  • The Tigers have been eliminated on six of the last seven occasions that they have faced Premier League opposition in this competition.
  • That win came at Wigan Athletic in August 2008, the only occasion they have won over 90 minutes away from home against top flight opposition in 20 League Cup matches.

This is going to be a gung-ho end to end carnival of football. Every fan in the ground will come home with sore throats from their lusty singing and everything will be rosy again. Maybe.

I actually think we'll put out a worser team than yesterday and win convincingly. Can't see them caring much about the LC with their injury crisis.

Would like to see us really go for it attacking formation and play with verve, pace and power.
Moving the ball quickly in entertaining fashion and free roles for eriksen and lamela

This is a great opportunity to work on our attacking play. I think Hull will go with different personnel but a similar setup, and we should approach this game knowing that and having something up our sleeve to overcome this other than 'bore them into complacency'.

Let's see a change in formation, two upfront, perhaps Adebayor sees some game time, or Lamela is given a forward role alongside Defoe - note this is a forward role, not in the hole. I think we need more men higher up the pitch to drag the central midfield two up the pitch and start our attacking moves from ten yards inside their half rather than ten yards inside our half.

Please let's not make this more difficult than it needs to be. Fast passes, quick movement, kick the bloody ball in the bloody net. Done.

I want us to keep practicing whatever formation we're going to play in the future. If AVB wants a 43...whatever lets keep training it to perfect. sorting out the guff movement etc should be tested here, we can be a bit more gungho

Hull already had a very thin squad that played 90 minutes Sunday, don't think Bruce will go guns blazing and keep all his first teamers out there for this with a big game vs Sunderland at the weekend. Our second team, much like Chelsea yesterday, has tons of quality in its own right, so I think we get the AVB special, 2-0.

we going are to bore these poor little northern monkeys into the ground and give them the biggest
1-0 thrashing they will ever have had - they will end up wishing they stayed up north watching paint dry

5/2 for us to get 2 goals+ in the first half. Stuck a cheeky tenner on. Not great odds but might pay for my lunch for the week :D

We should be playing a complete team of people needing match experience and youngsters. Our top players have had plenty of matches already.

I don't think Bruce will care too much about this, and the side he picks won't be sent out with the same game plan as Sunday - to do that he'd have to pick his best defenders, like big Curtis who does most of their organising, and I would be stunned if he picked him with the big game they have at the weekend.

I expect us to score a few tonight.

I'll go 3-0 Spurs.
