As much as we dominated the midfield and were the better team! We didnt deserve to win it.

I dont think VDS had to pull off one meaningful save. The striker situation is becoming apprant more and more with every game. Had we had a striker in the elk you mentioned i think we would have bagged 3points. As it stands if VDV or bale dont play out of there skin we have little chance.

It was all to easy for ferdinand and vidic today against crouch

This is my point, Crouch, Defoe and Pav will always be meat and potatoes for defenders of that quality.

The other issue is, VDV is our main goal threat, so now he is having to stay in advanced positions rather than come deep for the ball and be able to create chances or shoot at distance - which is more his game than getting on the end of Crouch's (rare) knockdowns all the time.

I thought we absolutely pwned their midfield.

If the special one was our manager he'd have accused them of parking the bus. Which is great credit to how far we've come.

Fully agree. Mid-table forwards playing in a top 4 team.

vdV's header wide and his curling shot just over were the only two times we threatened the goal all match, inspite of having a considerable majority of possession.

Haven't read the entire thread, but from this page Crouch has obviously been the subject of a few posts.

I have say I am annoyed with Redknapp today. I'm not sure how he saw fit to leave Crouch on the pitch for the full 90mins. He offers so little up front in the league. He is a useful player for European matches, it makes me think he would be better suited to a move abroad. For such a tall player, he really does not win his fair share of headers.

The City game last season was about the only game I have ever been impressed with a display from Crouch. He really worked hard in that game, but that was truly a once off. Now, I'm not saying he is shit, I think he is a decent option to have, either to start and bring off - depending on the opposition - or to come off the bench. He just does not offer enough to play a full 90mins though.

United were there for the taking today and we really should have gone for it. I can't understand how Pav didn't get a run today. As Andy Gray said, not even bcos Pav is that great but purely just to change things up a little.

Again, the conclusion is, that we desperately need a striker, if we want to finish in the top 4, bcos at present, the league table is just about an accurate reflection that we are just about not good enough, due to the fact that our main rivals for fourth, from last year, have strengthened into title contenders, while we are currently in a battle for fourht with the defending champions. While we have taken a step forward, City have taken a major leap forward, and we are currently relying on Chelsea's fall from grace to be sufficient that we can overtake them.

At present Levy has one of two gambles he can take, either gamble on a striker or gamble on Chelsea not hitting some form.

Your spot on and tbh I don't think we will make the CL unless one of the two gambles you have mentioned happens. I wrote a post on another topic stating if VDV had not signed for us we would be really struggling because apart from Bale and Pav(when Arry picks him) no else is scoring. The thing which staggers me is that for the majority of the season we have been playing with one CF namely Crouch. He has only scored once offers no pace in behind, is not a poacher, or a player who can create a goal out of nothing like Pav or JD yet he gets picked every week.:duh: That to me is shocking I am admit he works hard but other than that he offers very little else he should never have been signed in the first place.

unlucky? Id say pretty pathetic. the ref gifted us an advantage and we still couldnt score. Harry shoulders some of the blame for keeping a completely useless Crouch on for 90 minutes. I dont want to hear any talk of titles coming from the team after that.

Dominating a match with the best team in the country? One that is unbeaten?

We were the better team and on another day we would've won. The main thing that stopped us today was Vidic, who I felt gave one of the best defensive displays I've ever seen (apart from his shirt-pulling on VdV in the area). Ferdinand was also very solid and didn't put a foot wrong.

You can knock Crouch a bit today, he wasn't very good and squandered the one big chance he had, but I felt that no forward in the world was going to get past those two today.

Modric was absolutely fantastic, ran the show completely and was definitely our MotM, but I have to say I was a bit surprised the bottle wasn't given to Vidic.

Vidic and Rio were immense.

I thought this comment on the BBC Live Football page wasn't too far off the mark:

I think Spurs were a little too concerned about what United could do to them rather than what they could do to United.

Crouch's miss was our best chance by far.

Rooney
Drogba
Torres
VPussy
arguably Carroll

even santa clauz would probably be an improvement on Crouch

I said atm (at the moment). neither Chelsea, Man Utd nor Arsenal have a top class striker they can rely upon because they are all out of form and have been for quite a while. We are in no different position than they are.

We weren't unlucky, but to go as far as saying we we're pathetic I'd say is pretty retarded. We played really well in midfield and defence. Gallas, Daws and BAE were immense, Palacios did well enough and Luka was just sensational, again! Bale and Lennon I feel could have contributed more in terms of final balls. VdV was below par, but the main reason we didn't win, we all know, is that fucking beampole up front. And the lot on the bench ain't much better. We need a fucking striker. When this is addressed, then we can think about beating Champions elect, till then, we're in a (losing) battle for 4th.

You're getting dangerously close to typical Arsenal fan "we passed the ball loads so we deserved to win" kind of attitude. We created 2 good chances all game, and one of those was gifted to us by Hernandez. The majority of our possession was after Rafael was sent off, we did nowhere near enough to win the game and weren't unlucky at all.

Yep, spot on I thought. We had a lot of attacking players out, the only other change I would've made was Pav on for Crouch, but we still never really went for it. Partly to their defence's credit, partly because we were a bit timid.

Man U cant score if they dont have the ball. How many teams out play man u? If we had a decent forward to partner VDV we would have won. You cant argue with that?

I wouldnt say we were in the same position as them as they actually have the striker, form is temporary etc etc. we dont have that striker

What a tough game today, still I think Utd will be happier with the point than us. I thought the central pairing of Ferdinand and Vidic was immense today especially Vidic, got to be the best pair in the Prem and Crouch had a difficult time because of it.
Glad to see Raphael go off, a bit of a soft second yellow but he was at it all afternoon and I reckon the ref thought it was one too many but then again I think it made them go more defensive just when Bale's superior stamina would have really begun to tell.

I was well pleased with our defence today special mention for Benoit; Nani who? was he playing? would be most appropriate, pleased with the team all round really but Modric was head and shoulders above, man of the match by a country mile today.

But we don't, so there's no point in discussing it. I don't think we outplayed Utd, atleast they worked Gomes whereas VDS had nothing to do all game except claim a couple of crosses.
