We have raised the bar to a very high by beating Madrid, now we must maintain that standard, it would be disappointing to get knocked out in the next round by a much lesser team. Really there is no reason why we can't go on and win the whole damn thing.

We should win the group, but right now the second place team include Bayern, Juve and Sevilla, three teams that could cause us problems. Basel, Porto and Shakthar the other three as of today. Basel and Porto are the teams we would want to advance to the last eight.

Just watched the game again. Great result, great win and a great performance. While we had some great chances so did Real. They looked good going forward, but we made their back four look suspect and took advantage. I would not want to meet them again over two legs.

Great to have football friends being impressed by Tottenham again.

There are no easy games there, Basel, people underestimated before when we played them and look what happened. We just have to keep professional.

I know the media is pushing the notion of Harry Kane to Real, but the player who would fit the Galactico model is Dele. Won't be long before he is being linked to Madrid.

I was replying to your point about no reason why we cannot win it, but if we drew Juve or Bayern we would have a difficult route to the final. I would not want Shkathar due to the travel. Porto and Basel are season CL and Europa teams, but travel would be easier and tough ties but not like Juve or Bayern.

A lot can change over the final games and even the likes of Atleti could finish second.

It was disgraceful last night my card didn't work at the turnstile just told to try another one did so still failed so asked a steward if I could be let in via disabled door as my son was already in the ground with email and I'd but he just said no go to ticket office which was other side of the ground took me another hour to get the front and still a queue longer than when I got on the end.
Think I must have been near you cos a guy near me went ballistic after travelling from Carlisle to see the game 160 quid and hotel down the drain. two lads from Denmark couldn't get in either.
Technology is great when it works but it took me two hours to get in and I have written to the club to get this sorted.
1 It needs more than one ticket office
2 They need to fix the problem with loading the cards
3 Need to highlight more the need to have I'D on you when going to a match

It is unlikely I will go to another midweek game it's just too much hassle. I paid a pound a minute for my second half and what should have been a memorable night turned into one for the wrong reasons.

That's pretty bad, tweet the club and Wembley, o
Put it out there in the public domain - guaranteed you'll get a response.

According to the rules yes but common sense tells you that not all situations which effectively penalise the attacking need to be deliberate.

Sorry, run that by us again?

The definition of handball is deliberate, end of.

Unfortunately the way this is enforced is the problem.

Yes I'm fully aware of what the definition of handball is thank you.

Have you ever heard of contentions decisions? Have you heard about ref's needing to use 'common sense' and grey area's? Have you ever seen situation where defenders have hand balled the ball completely accidentally therefore unfairly taking the advantage away from the attacking team?

Have a look at this incident in the Utd/Benfica match 0:25 seconds in and tell me what you see:

Ok, you've just contradicted yourself in that post.

If you're aware of the definition of handball, then you understand it has to be intentional.

If the ball hits a defender's hand accidentally, even if that does disadvantage the attacking team, it's not handball.

Not sure what the point of the video is - isn't the penalty given for a foul?

I love a good abstract argument on a match thread. Should help sustain it for another five pages or so.

I can't view that video - may not be available overseas.

That's not a contradiction, I'm saying I fully understand the rules but the rules don't always apply as in evidence to many previous situations and many contentious decisions in other incidents like these.

Be a good idea to watch the video before you rebuttal anything else, try and find some highlights of the Utd/Benfica match and look at the first penalty incident and you'll see what I'm talking about.

So is what you're saying that the rules are wrong? Currently, nothing in the rules relates to disadvantaging the attacking team. Only intent. Do do you think that the rules should be chsnged? In which case, a goalbound shot that accidentally hits a hand is a penalty, right?

In the case of our game, Modric goes for a header but missed completely and the ball hits his arm. Completely unintentional. Would you give that as a penalty? If so, you have to change the rules.

I watched the video - surely the penalty is given for the foul, nothing to do with a handball?

Did they announce the attendance last night? Wembley looked as full as I’ve seen it - usually something is announced / shown on the screen around the 75 minute mark but didn’t hear or see anything yesterday. Can’t find anything online today either...

"Intention" and "intent" are a bit convoluted terms in the rules. "Intent" is referring to the players duty to show that he/she intended to avoid contact between ball and arm. "Intent" isn't "intended to deliberately hit the ball", but "intended to avoid the ball". If you clearly positioned your hand in a highly natural way or in a way that would avoid contact with the ball, then you showed the right intent. If you were lacking in the correct show of intent, you might be penalised even if it can be argued that the handball was a largely coincidental. You can't force a coincidence and be entitled to get away with it, but you can deliberately avoid a situation that could have been seen as coincidental, and that's intent.
