Chelscum had Pedro, Willian and fibreglass to bring on, while Liverfools has had Mane and Llalana to come on, with Firminho still on bench I think? Their depth vs ours. Miles apart. Games changers? I say we had none.. The rest of the title contenders can probably sub in 3 game changers for the subs ffs..
West Brom's bench had better options than ours.

Agreed our bench is fairly shit we had more defenders on it that attacking quality that says it all.

Still a long way to go but we need to put a run of wins together starting at Watford if we’re to start cementing our place in the top4 which will be very difficult this year. Hopefully we can really try and win the FA Cup, finish top 4 and give the CL a good run to quarters or semis would be amazing but unlikely.

COYS.

We have Leicester away on Tuesday night. Eek.

From where I was Sat, Lloris should have saved it very easily...why didn't he?

That goal was ridiculous! I could not believe we conceded such a goal. Gonna be a really tough to finish in the top four this season with the inconstancy of this side, as well as the injury list and lack of attacking options off the bench.

Bournemouth, Palace and Burnley laid down the blueprint for WBA on how to play us. I don't care what anyone on here says, those four teams and their managers have learned more about how to play us than Poch has done about how to play them.

His limitations as a coach are beginning to show, when teams press us high (like Woolwich did) and against teams who defend in numbers. We will not secure a top four spot if he continues to set out the side to play at home in the same style, no way.

what are these teams doing differently this season compared to last season when we were swatting them aside? i would say it's more what we're now not doing, rather than these teams apparently adapting their approach.

also i don't think it's fair to say poch hasn't learnt how to play against teams that press us high, yes we lost to arsenal but we also comfortably beat liverpool and dortmund(madrid too to a lesser extent) by changing the way we play against these kind of sides.

Poor performance today.. no urgency or determination.. bench was weak.. Disappointing that onomah and walker pieters not involved this season.. good enuf in comparison to sissoko, trippier, Aurier. . Also why not give the promising academy striker (sterling?) a spot.. can't do any less than llorente.. obvious that we need a player who can beat his man.. haven't had this type of player since bale.. poor scouting.

Much of the same at Wembley and for a lot of games this season to be honest. Certainly in the league. A lot of ball possession but slow and labored. Not many clear or even decent chances at goal and as much as you can give credit to the opponent - and I have this season - when it's happened for what must be a third of the matches we've played in the league there's a problem with us.

If you take away the 4-1 against Liverpool our Wembley PL record is as follows:
1-2 vs Chelsea [own goal]
1-1 vs Burnley [Alli]
0-0 vs Swansea
1-0 vs Bournemouth [Eriksen]
1-0 vs Palace [Son]
1-1 vs WBA [Kane]

Five goals in six games of which one was an own goal. A pitiful return with the talent in our array. And of those games above it was the defeat to Chelsea which in my opinion was the best performance because we created enough chances, hit the post and was unlucky to not get something from the game.

Another common factor among those games is the timings of the goals. None came in the first half. We've had six goalless first halves which gives the opposition confidence. It gives them confidence that they have kept us at bay and the longer the game goes in that pattern, our fans get reckless and our players get careless. That's just the nature of home games for any team.

Contrast this to last season at WHL where we only dropped four points out of fifty seven. Fast starts, often going a goal or two up inside the first twenty minutes. The opposition were killed by an early blitz and our robust midfield and defence meant they couldn't get back into the games. Now look at these Wembley games again: we gifted Chelsea a winner, we dropped too deep and let Burnley equalise, Sanchez could have given a penalty away vs Swansea, Defoe hit the post with 10 minutes to play for Bournemouth and Palace probably should have been 2-0 up before we scored. It's hard work for us to score a goal yet our robustness isn't so impressive either. We're giving opponents a sniff of getting something from the game.

The Liverpool, Madrid and Dortmund games showed signs of last season again in the way we attacked but why has this been exceptions rather than the norm? Poch is a manager who demands passion and energy from players after-all. It's possible to say teams in the PL raised their game 5-10% at Wembley against us and we raised our games against those three teams. Certainly in intensity and concentration.

I have raised concern that it feels like we're getting too ahead of ourselves and behaving as if we're top dogs. We're not. We're very good and can become special but there is an air of hubris lately. Do the basics right again and take it from there lads...

Looked from where i was sitting like he thought it was going wide, or didn't expect it to go through Sanchez's legs.

Either way, it was a very poor goal to concede.

Another game where the opposition bank up and we have no idea how to open them up. Crossing from wide positions was poor, as we kept on hitting the first man. Dele and Eriksen had stinkers, while Kane still doesn't look anywhere near 100%

What does anyone expect a suitable back up and or another option was not purchased when it should have been, so he is flogged to death because of this oversight even though it has been an issue for more than two seasons now very strange decision indeed not to seek an alternative.

If Llorente scored all of last seasons 15 goals with his head, then that was poor, poor scouting. He needs to use is feet too FFS, or get him outta the team.

Fair points. I don’t mind constructive criticisms, it’s the end-of-the-world over-reactions “we’re never going to get top 4, we’re not as good as we think we are” comments that irk me. But, it’s my problem, and I probably need to find a happy place to go
