Cups are easier to win than the league.

2007/08 was a rubbish season which also gave us our most recent success - the League Cup.

It’s crazy they still have 2 leg semi in this.If City and United get to final it gives us 4 clear weeks rest over them which could be crucial. Also the finalists will be playing catch up games wise as final is on a weekend. Its really why united got so many injuries and big part in them coming 6th.
If we won yeah it would be nice but does it really push us on as a club. You could have that debate all week. What I would say is we have a better chance in other competitions than we would have had.Probably gives us a 5% advantage.

That's a very good comparison football wise.
But as a club we've new state of the art training ground, a new stadium being built and financially stable.
We all question Levy at every turn but look how we've progressed as a club.
Look where Poch has taken the team.
I think as much as I hate the result tonight we have to trust Poch knows what he's doing more than us.
Difficult I know.

I agree mate . Certainly football wise

Imagine if we had gone on to win the Carabao Cup, do you think fans from other clubs would say, wow, they won a great trophy!? no, they would just say we won a shitty cup, that nobody cares about. The Carabao Cup has little prestige, and the up side to this, is that we can fully focus on the EPL, CL and the F.A Cup, have less games to play, less fatigue, less risk of injuries.

Yes we are all angry and upset about the way we lost tonight, complacency, arrogance, poch's late subs, whatever but to believe that the League Cup was the only realistic way of winning a trophy this season is ridiculous. We are a highly ambitious club now, aiming for the very top and we are getting there.
Absurd post.

Just watched first half highlights: we should have been four up if Alli had out away his header and passed to Son on time. Had Sissoko done that people would have been apoplectic with rage on social media.

2nd goal was the worst absolute shambles

Son gives away cheaply
Dier let’s lanzini waltz past him
Same again by dier with ayew
Then 2 weak headers by Son and Toby
Then foyth plays everyone onside

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

They got the flourish bit down a treat, but as to the "beating the lot, and not taking foot off the gas" i guess they still have to learn.

At least they dont do the other bit i.e. play like a mourinho team.

It's not about what other clubs or fans think it's the galvanising effect, confidence, extra energy and buzz that this squad can feed off. Lifting even the League Cup would offer this. So much more so IMO than a point in the Bernebeu for example.

It really wouldn't. What you have said here is just wrong. Players get a lot more belief out of going toe to toe with Real Madrid than lifting the Carabao cup. You of course know this so you are being deliberately disingenuous after a disappointing performance and result.

Yes the Carabeo Cup is a trophy, but it's nowhere near as important as it used to be. It's basically just become a reserve team trophy.
Finishing in the top four is a far bigger achievement than winning the Carabeo Cup. Never used to feel like that about the League Cup years ago , but this trophy now is abit of a joke.
If you had to choose this cup or top four, surely no one would choose the Carabao Cup would they?
It is clearly the lowest priority by far. We're out, it's never good to lose the way we did tonight, but there's no reason to be all doom and gloom. Hopefully get a big reaction on Saturday. COYS

Since when has winning a trophy been about what other fanbases think? I just want to have fun watching football and winning a trophy is great fun! It's a lot more fun than 2nd place!

The fact of the matter is, there is more glory in winning 1 league cup than winning nothing for nearly 10 years.

No it isn't. I've enjoyed the last 3 years of having a competitive team a lot more than winning the Carling Cup. I enjoyed beating Inter Milan more than I enjoyed winning the Carling cup. I enjoyed an unbeaten season at the land more than I enjoyed winning the Carling cup. So I would disagree with you and say finishing second in the league is a lot more fun than winning the league cup.

If West Ham get to the final and lose. And get relegated by 1pt.And we win title by 1pt it will be because of tonight.Poch is a genius lol.

In all serious so what the fuck happened here tonight?

I’ve missed the game because of work, I had an update it was 2-0 then I get home to see we lost 3-2! We never let 2-0 leads slip or let in 3 goals especially not to shite like West Ham and at home!! That is the spurs of 10-15 years ago.

So was it down to lack of concentration, lucky or good goals from them? Individual mistakes?

Please can someone summarise what happened during the 90 minutes today, really very disappointed as was a good chance to win a trophy for once and nice and early in the season would do wonders for the boys confidence and winning mentality to get one under their belt even if it is the Carabao cup we’re not bigger than any trophy.

Look forward to hearing some explanations chaps.

I don’t care if poch or the players give a shit about this cup. We should never throw away a 2 goal lead especially to West Ham. They think of us as rivals and we give them stupid reasons like this too. Embarrassing

Just got home.

In the first held I am not sure WHam were even in the stadium and we played in second gear. We had some great touches but it was a training ground exercise. In the second half the opposition turned up and remembered what they are good at and we could not change up a gear nor were we smart enough to suss out the dangers and take control of the game

At treats we got a half decent spectacle in the end. I was so bored I was going to leave if we had gone three up. Not too worried we lost if this is a timely lesson that players will take to heart for the rest of the season. Maybe after the last two games we were starting to get above ourselves. Now back to hard grate for 95 minutes every game
