Well I can only speak for myself and that's not the case with me. I have no problem with the team Poch put out or that we lost to a team that were just better than us on the day. It's the attitude and either a) complete lack of professionalism or b) lack of bollocks that bothers me.

Agree. That performance was abysmal and embarrassing. The team we put out was good enough to win and from being 2-0 to lose was a disgrace. Much more important games coming up and hope we get a reaction. Under Pochettino we normally do.

People are losing their shit over the way we lost, not the fact we got knocked out.
Thank you. That is exactly the point. Obviously it would be great to win a trophy but it's the being 2-0 up aspects that has annoyed people.

Of course he needs a trophy! he has been building a very good team for few years now and now its time to deliver,we have won sweet FA for years and we also need to keep the players at the club by winning things,it may only be a League Cup but its something.the game is about glory

I agree with you. But that result was always on the cards, even at 2-0. We played like we thought we were on easy street. If Poch addressed that at half time, the players seemingly didn't listen.

I agree with the fact that we showed very little balls during those 15 mins when we lost the game, however I feel as though this result should be a good kick in the arse for the lads to remind themselves that we cannot afford to switch off when we are in the lead against any team.

The silver lining is that's one less cup for us to worry about, and personally I'd much rather have us do well in the PL, CL and FA Cup than the Carabao Cup. We do not have the squad depth to compete for all 4 anyway.

As the commentator said during the game, this game will do no real damage to Spurs and is immense for West Ham in terms of their recent performances. In terms of the real competitions we should show up for, I feel as if this cup isn't anywhere near as important as the other 3.

The thing I find fascinating is that West Ham fans feel as if beating us is the same as winning the league, and it will be so fucking funny when they get relegated from the PL this season and their only highlight will be this game.

This result serves as a reminder that even though we have grown so much under Poch, we will still have off days and as fans we need to accept that.

Well, at least we can still play at a stadium

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...-stadium-e20-stadium-llp-bust-administration/

HAM BUSTER
West Ham’s landlords on brink of going bust – so mayor and council fight to avoid humiliation of Hammers being locked out of London Stadium
New dispute over the club's low-cost lease seems certain as the price of keeping E20 Stadium LLP out of administration is likely to be MORE public funding on top of hundreds of millions

Should put that in the west ham thread aswell. It's definitley worthy of discussion, just not in the match thread.

What "brand" are we trying to build with a dishonest footballer and a basketball player who has been cited in a divorce case because he was accused of sexual assault?

Fox News:

Maradona was wheeled in only because he is buddies with Ardiles and Poch, i mean he's hardly likely to go down a bundle with the British public now is he.

"good brand building" my arse as Jim Royle would say.

:cautious:

Allowances are made for exceptionally talented people. That is not my opinion either.

Global brand building. You're coming across as sour here, Gaz.

I find all this talk of "one less cup to worry about" pretty depressing. Does being out of the CC drastically improve our chances of winning the PL, CL or FA Cup? I don't think so. All we are at the moment is a pretty good team that hasn't won anything. That needs to change and change soon. The CC was a perfect opportunity.

Spot on! I couldn’t care less what competition last night happened in, the simple fact is we came out in the 2nd half and downed tools against West Ham when we had the chance to bury them, whether it was complacency, arrogance or what doesn’t matter-we shouldn’t be throwing away a 2 goal lead to anybody, especially the likes of West Ham.

Annoys me we’ve given them joy when they should be in the depths of despair

West Ham are like your no-good, estranged, junkie brother who you can’t resist giving a score to when he turns up on your doorstep unannounced, smelling of cat’s piss

Redknapp was right, we were arrogant as fuck. Simply thought we could just stroll through the game at 2-0. It was almost like a training game, who the fuck do we think we are ?

Without a doubt I thought those kind of results were a thing of the past. There's still a capitulation in there guaranteed. Sometimes I miss my old Tottenham, was lovely to see the old team last night.

Any team can have an off day, but as you said, complete capitulation and an unwillingness to compete were supposed to be a thing of the past. It may only be the league cup, but the lack of leaders able to rally the team when it was needed was like the Spurs of old.

Is it a case of not really giving a fuck ( bad enough in itself) or is it a lack of balls and winning mentality still at the decisive moments when we need to win? Guess we'll find out when we are presented with another crucial moment or decisive game or chance to win a trophy.
I think there has been an element of arrogance from the players and even poch himself that we are too good for the competition itself.
This represented an opportunity to win a piece of silverware and we just didn't bother, yet United went after this last year when they realised they wasn't going to win the league so why is it good enough for them to win it but not us.
Reality is that we are not going to win the league either so this attitude towards other cup competitions could come back to bite us in the arse, do we think because we got a draw in Madrid that we no longer bother I think the club have passed up a good opportunity to secure a trophy in nearly a decade.

I would 1,000,000% take a win at United and that defeat

It seemed like the game was a side show, like a training game. his subs were pre planne, no really tactical analysis of the opposition. just go out and play. Like all the eggs are in the United basket.

If thats the case and we win up there, fully justified IMO. anything less than that and it was just stupid to treat it with such sylvain distain

Same with me, still pissed off about it, reminded me of that 5-1 defeat against Newcastle where the players just couldn't be bothered to be professional, Poch even said so himself in this new book, that being said though, Poch wasn't bothered about this cup so not sure he can criticise the players for not caring.

The bottom line is that its an either or not a both, we are joint second in the league playing the other joint second at their ground on Saturday and to have put out the full first eleven last night would have been detrimental to that.
As it happens we put out a side that was capable of beating West Ham but they made the mistake of thinking, along with everybody else in the ground and in the country, that the game was over and did not respond when West Ham got a fortunate goal that never looked on the cards at all and got them fired up.
It is situations like that that show the difference between playing the regular players and playing players that haven't got the same connection, it was a chance we had to take because it was either play everybody last night or play everybody on Saturday but playing them in both wasn't an option.
Like you I think we made the correct choice.
As it happens I also think being slapped down may do us good in the long run.

I was too angry last night and too busy this morning to make a coherent comment. Having calmed down (a bit) here's my pennyworth. Anyone who thought our opponents last night would come out after half time and not put in the extra effort to try and come back needs their head examined. That our team last night came out and played as if the game was over was really crass. We were too arrogant by far.It was typically "Spursy"!

In my opinion the only way to play under the circumstances of being 2 up at half time is to come out and play as if you are 2 down and try and get another couple of goals and kill them game off. Then you ease off, and even then only if you're not playing against a top PL or European side. Once you lose momentum in a game it's very hard to get it back again.

you are right and it was painfully obvious what was going to happen as soon as that 2nd WH goal went in.

The thing is, there were a few first team players in there who should have stepped up - but the way we closed the game against a much, much better side in Liverpool with a fuller strength team means im not really worried. But I'm still hoping as most seem to be that Poch will rip in to everyone and give them a kick up the arse going forward.

Glad that happened in a league cup game and not any of the other competitions, more of a shame it was against a woefully poor west ham team.

When you look how the fixtures pan out .The 5th round is Dec 19th right before Xmas program. It also means teams in CL/carabo will have 14 games in row with Just 3 days break in between.Which quite frankly is madness. We will get a break after game 9 for a week just before Xmas which could be crucial.Added to the fact winning it your most likely gonna have a 2 leg semi against top 6 club plus a final which would be hugely energy sapping. When you look at the +\- I’d edge just on the side of being out. There can be no Debate it will give us a better shot at the other 3 comps.

The first point: I totally agree and it is fully justified. The only way we can win the "losers" tag is by winning something and we won't win anything capitulating like that.

Second point: I agree, but only up to a point. I think it should be a cup we could win but I accept that it is fourth priority and if we have a game like that I would prefer it to be the League Cup. That said I would rather we didn't play like that, ever again!

That second half performance reminded me of the loss against Newcastle in the last game of the 2015-16 season

Sure the fixture list is more intense this year than normal.14 games back to back is like playing 2 world cups back to back and getting to final both times.completely bonkers. Will certainly be survival of the fittest.
