17:37 GOAL- Tottenham 0-3 West Ham - Ravel Morrison
We've spent the weekend talking about special young talent coming out of Old Trafford, well here's another one.
Sensational goal from Ravel Morrison to seal victory for the Hammers. He picks the ball up in his own half, runs away from Jan Vertonghen, nutmegs Michael Dawson and then flicks it over the onrushing Hugo Lloris and in. That was very, very impresive.
17:30 GOAL- Tottenham 0-2 West Ham - Ricardo Vaz Te
Remarkable! West Ham score again, and again they get a lucky ricochet!
Nothing fortunate about Mark Noble's excellent pass to send Ricardo Vaz Te away though, that was superb, but the forward's shot is tame, only for it to come back off Hugo Lloris and go in off the thigh of Vaz Te.
You couldn't do that if you tried...
17:24 GOAL - Tottenham 0-1 West Ham - Winston Reid (66 mins)
West Ham lead against the run of play as Winston Reid meets Stewart Downing's corner with a bullet header, Kevin Nolan inadvertently blocks it on the line, it falls back at the feet of the New Zealander and he smashes in.
17:21SUBSTITUTION- Tottenham 0-0 West Ham
Another blow for my fantasy football team as Gylfi Sigurdsson is replaced by Spurs' record signing Erik Lamela. Can the Argentine make the breakthrough?
:
HALF-TIME - Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

Tottenham take in a London derby against West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to keep pace with the Premier League front-runners when they play host to capital foes West Ham United on Sunday.

Spurs have dropped just five points in their opening six fixtures and sit just two adrift of arch-rivals Arsenal - who continue to set the pace.

If other results were to go their way, there is a chance that Andre Villas-Boas' side will end the weekend at the top-flight summit.

Picking up another positive result will be of greater concern than league standings, though, with Spurs looking to preserve a fine defensive record which has seen them breached just twice so far.

Unlocking that door is the challenge facing West Ham, and they desperately need to find a winning formula.

The Hammers have not tasted a league success since the opening day of the season, with two points collected from the last 15 on offer.

Luck has not been on their side, and they have picked up three clean sheets, but an inability to grind out results has left them perched just above the bottom three and in need of a boost.

Paul Merson's prediction
With the way Tottenham are playing I can only go for a home win. If there hadn't been a half-time whistle last week they'd have become real title contenders in my mind.

They didn't create a lorry-load of chances in the first half against Chelsea, but they looked very comfortable indeed. Chelsea turned it on in the second half, but I expect Spurs to beat a West Ham team that is struggling with no Andy Carroll. Kevin Nolan loses a lot of impetus when the big striker is not in the team and I don't see them hurting Tottenham.

Tottenham
Tottenham, as expected, made a number of changes for Thursday's Europa League clash with Anzhi Makhachkala and are likely to rotate again when they return to domestic action.

Younes Kaboul picked up a knock in Russia and is doubtful for weekend duty, meaning he will join Etienne Capoue (ankle) and Aaron Lennon (ankle) on the sidelines.

Jermain Defoe was among the goals again against Anzhi, but Villas-Boas has confirmed that he is likely to be benched against his former employers on Sunday - with Roberto Soldado drafted back in

West Ham
West Ham will welcome Joe Cole back into their ranks following a hamstring complaint.

The experienced playmaker is, however, lacking in match fitness and Sam Allardyce has announced that he may have to settle for a place among the substitutes.

Andy Carroll remains a long-term absentee with a heel problem and Alou Diarra could miss the remainder of the season with knee ligament damage.

Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul picked up a muscle injury on Thursday against Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League and will be absent.

Danny Rose, Aaron Lennon and Etienne Capoue are not expected to return to the first-team squad until after the international break.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has Joe Cole available again after a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Striker Andy Carroll and midfielder Alou Diarra remain long-term absentees,

West Ham fans have learned to be a long-suffering bunch. Along with providing the backbone of England's class of '66 and at producing a good smattering of stars for the country ever since, the odd sparkling cup success and European foray have kept them going through some tough times.

In the context of their recent history, last season's mid-table finish was a considerable success story; they only occasionally toyed with the idea of finishing anywhere above halfway, but were never unduly concerned by the unseemly scrap below them.

There was cause for optimism that there might be still more progress made in the season ahead. That optimism may be beginning to dwindle after a start in which the football has been mainly of the thrill-an-hour variety.

For the many Hammers' fans who religiously travel away, it's been worse.

Cue Michael Palin's Monty Python voice: "A thrill an hour; we used to dream of a thrill an hour! Why we used to throw a street party if we saw a corner."

Since they were promoted back in 2012, West Ham have played 22 Premier League games away from home, scoring 11 goals. The last time they managed more than one goal away from the Boleyn Ground was 1 October last season - but that was at QPR.

Every one of the other 159 teams in the top seven divisions in England scored more away goals than West Ham last season. Do you need me to tell you that the Hammers' running total for away goals this season stands at nil?

So what chance of them breaking that duck at Spurs, who have conceded just two goals in the last 19 hours and 27 minutes of league and cup football? You might say slim.

Then there is the history of this fixture. It's so long since West Ham won at White Hart Lane that the last time that happened Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard played in claret and blue and Ian Wright scored for the Hammers.

West Ham's only significant victory over Spurs since the infamous lasagne-gate of 2006 came in the battle to move to the Olympic Stadium. Mind you, winning that one could be the most significant of the lot.

facts_zps1ddb6ac9.jpg

Head-to-head
  • The Hammers have only won one of their last 12 league games against Tottenham - a 1-0 victory in September 2010 thanks to Frederic Piquionne's goal.
  • Their last league win at White Hart Lane came in April 1999. Ian Wright and Marc Keller scored the Hammers' goals.
  • Tottenham won both matches last season, scoring six goals in the process.
Tottenham
  • Thirteen points from their opening six matches is Tottenham's joint-best start to a Premier League season, along with 2002-03.
  • Spurs have won 15 and lost just two of their last 25 London derbies at home in the league.
  • They have lost only one of their last 16 top-flight games at White Hart Lane (W11, D4).
  • Tottenham have attempted more shots from open play than any other side in the Premier League this term (69).
West Ham
  • The Hammers have not won in their last eight away matches in the Premier League and have failed to score in their last four away from Upton Park.
  • Sam Allardyce's side have had just 14 shots on target in the league this season; Spurs had 29 shots against Cardiff alone.
  • They have won just seven of their 25 matches in the league so far in 2013.
  • Just one of the five goals that West Ham have conceded in the Premier League this season has come from open play.
  • They have only earned 10 points from their last 10 top-flight London derbies (W3, D1, L6), losing the last four in a row.

Okay, another "BIG" Game as we all dislike west ham (understated)..... So, I want to see Spurs really open it up and send a very attacking minded team:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Verts Rose
Paulinho Dembele
Townsend Holtby Eriksen
GOLdado

Now, I am sure the 3 atacking midfielders will be townsend, eriksen, and sigi,.... but what the hey?... if only Lamela looked more settled I'd really like to see Lamela, Holtby, and Eriksen across that mid,.... but I digress.

Ultimately, I really want to see Spurs put this lame spammer team to the sword and get GOLdado on the board with a couple goals, get that train moving... Get on them early and often!!!!

The atmosphere should be electric. Cant wait to get there, sitting in paxton, but hopefully will still feel the noise from park lane. This has the feeling of an epic. There is the political thing about the y word, local derby and quality frim us all over the park. I take it the bells still not open?

I'm excited for this one, but I think it could be a toughie. I don't expect much of an attacking threat from West Ham, but I think they'll aim to make it hard for us to play. I'd hate to see us trying to break down a ten-man defence for the last 30 minutes so a couple of goals before then would be ideal. The great thing about this team is that we know how to score late goals, though.

AVB doesn't usually turn to me for advice on team selection or tactics, but if I was picking the team then I'd start Defoe. Get at them directly from the start. Townsend, Ericksen and Siggy behind would provide pace, creativity and a goal threat. I'd be tempted to start Holtby and either Dembele or Paulinho in the middle. Work hard and keep the ball moving. Aim for Soldado and Lamella to come on later with Sandro.

I'm going for a 2-0 win and Defoe and Soldado the scorers on 15 and 85 minutes.

Eriksen doesn't play out wide, that's a damn waste. Holtby could be played out there theoretically, similar to how Sigurdsson is used. I don't see AVB dropping Sigurdsson either, as he's our leading scorer in the league and was rested during the week.

Eriksen can and have in the past played on the left cutting in but I also think it's a waste.

I'll be disappointed if we don't give Lamela 30 minutes but I expect a very similar team to the one that played against Chelsea. Maybe with Holtby as well, take the game to these.
