Ability maybe. Brain no. Townsend would never have made the last pass to Kane That Lamela did. At this level the differentiator is often the top two inches of your body.

There are quite a few players who wouldn't have made that pass. I dont believe Kane would in that area. Doesn't mean theres no brain.

Or ever.. The only reason Townsend is even in the picture is due to the fact he is English. His poor choice in passes, dribbling into dead ends, occasionally out of bounds, or straight into the defender would have him deamed a flop if we had purchased him for abroad.

I think if he just did the basics, rather than just cut in and shoot he would be a good player

You would think that after last season, players would know how Pochettino would react to dissension - particularly if it is contained to a player or 2

Nothing should be allowed to disrupt the bonhomie and team spirit we have in the team now. He is a silly boy.

Stupid, with EL and the run in November he likely would have played and had a chance to show his value to the team.

Getting himself fined and dropped now is detrimental to himself and to the club. Daft thing to do.

Why exactly? We all know how this story ends. One way or another he'll be sold now.
Well, I said it before I knew he had been dropped from the squad. This is ver reminiscent of the dust-up last season - only this is actually a bit more public since it was caught on camera. So, I was expecting him to be dropped - just not sure how Poch was going to handle it.

2013-14: 32 Apps & 2 Goals
2014-15: 35 Apps & 5 Goals

And in that time period only 2 assists (if online stats are accurate).

I'm not against the lad and nor do I enjoy sitting next to anyone at the Lane who sits there slagging off any player. But anyone wanting Townsend over Lamela is in my view looking back with rose tinted glasses at the odd Bale-esque strikes from distance.

Townsend, has not done enough in the last two seasons to currently warrant more minutes in a Tottenham shirt, whereas Lamela is currently performing and playing the way Poch wants Spurs to play (despite a shaky start).

For me its a no brainer, Lamela starts and Townsend can play cups. If he wants more, then he needs to adapt his game or ask to leave. If he leaves, then I will wish him the very best as he has been a good servant to the club.

What is more concerning with these stats is that one goal was a missed cross and there were a few penalties. He is just not contributing enough. It is a shame because he has the ability and is a likeable guy from our academy. He needs to move on and will probably do well somewhere else like Sigurdsson, but he had enough chances here. We have enough players in his position anyway. Replace him with a no. 9 in winter if possible.

Cue Townsend senior piping up on every media outlet saying his son has been treated unfairly......Buck up your ideas Andros. If you wanted to, you could be part of something very big at Spurs. If not, head to Villa or Sunderland for a relegation scrap.

Can't see anyway round this one. No one will pay £15 mil for the lad.

Whilst he is a Spurs asset, the folks ahead of him are performing well enough to keep him on the bench.

We can't drop Lamela for Townsend just yet.

More cup matches?

I think someone will pay 10 million though.

Always liked his raw talent but seems to seriously lack intelligence.

I've seen nothing from him thus far this season to suggest his decision making has improved. I think he thought he would be the next Bale but clearly his mind isn't as football oriented as it could be. Some people can read the game 4 or 5 passes in advance (Berbatov, Keane, Modric, VDV to name a few examples from our recent past), some can't...

Thats exactly why Lamela looks miles better.
He's stopped running into people because he's trying to beat evetyone and is passing the ball instead.
He's still young so I think a loan would be the best option. See how he gets on playing every week.
He's Spurs through and through and he has got blistering pace so IF he can turn it around it could be a massive cock up to let him go imo.

Agreed about lamela, I don't think Townsend is that quick he has some pace but bale and Lennon you would see beat people with just raw pace I don't think anyone in the team has pure pace like they had.

I haven't given up on him yet, he has the tools to be a very good player, Lamela has turned the corner, Dembele might be doing the same so there is still hope for Andros. I'd than get Bolasie for 20 million.

He could score a brace against the scum and still the boo boys will hate him.
If he does well then we really ought to get behind him. The reason his popularity has fallen is he hasn't been producing, it's nothing personal. I used to cheer William Gallas, something I never expected to do. Anyone who does his best in a Spurs shirt is all right by me. He has the ability to be an asset to the team, I'd like to see us get the most out of him. Whether we think it's likely or not is another question.

Unfortunately I don't see him getting game time at the moment.
I thought Anderlect would have been his chance to shine now that's gone and Son is back, Andros will hardly get a sniff.
