He's from Walthamstow. It's not just coz he's English. He's local. Like I said earlier, that doesn't excuse him for poor play or anything but the fact he's a local lad means I give him that bit of extra leeway and it certainly means I'll never abuse or constantly mock him like the majority on here. Same goes for Kane and Mason.

He needs to take his chance though. The first time i saw him was in the youth fa cup against arsenal. We lost but he looked the best player on the pitch. So i have affection for him. But as with every player/coach/manager/chairman at spurs, if we have the chance to up grade we should.
He's still with us and i wont slag him off but he needs to improve to get game time.

True that, though I don't really think he's had a good run of games since the AVB says so it swings both ways.

Injuries haven't exactly helped him either.

I have no issue with him going if the manager has no need for him I'd just find it more fitting if we didn't **** him off at every opportunity

Are you not a supporter, after all you're a Spurs fan so by rights you should support any players who pulls on the white shirt.
& @ [E17yid]

I absolutely do support him when he's out on the pitch (as I even would Ade) and I always root for him but I'm past being frustrated since sometime last season. I could have chosen my language better in the last post but replace 'effing shite' with 'well below standard 'and its essentially the point I was making. Where he's from just confuses a decision that should be made for footballing reasons only.

before he got his 1st cap, it was hard to fault his performances, even though his goal tally wasn't good enough.

once he got that cap, his performances have gone the other way. his defensive duties have suffered, his passing got sloppy, and his efforts on goal have become too frustrating.

would be interesting to hear if he is one of those players that makes an effort to stay behind and put the extra work in, or whether he is one of the 1st to get away

Yes he's Spurs through and through but being such an enigmatic player he simply doesn't seem to take advise on board regarding tracking back etc or shooting into row z at every opportunity. Frustrating for any manager to work with players of his mind set.

Little known fact - Townsend had a 67% shot accuracy in the league last year.*

*it was only 29% in Europa league games

Bottom line, Townsend has to prove his qualities on the pitch, in a Spurs shirt, before complaining about minutes. We'll see him soon enough - I hope he plays well.

Quote laden article the majority of you are using to beat him. Add to that its from the mirror and you might as well be using you toilet paper to make up stories about him.

He had a 2 month + run of games last year and was not good. I like the bloke but he just cannot cut it for us. He's just not good enough and doesnt fit the system. He'll be better in a direct team in the bottom half of the table, IMO.

His passion for Spurs is blinding him and I think he will miss the Euros if he stays with us.

As mentioned earlier he should have seen all he needed to see in the fact he was a proposed make weight in other deals.

I admire him for wanting it so much but his determination to make it at Spurs is going to hurt his career. He needs to move on, its in everyone's best interests.

It's pretty obvious he doesn't follow coaching instructions.

That's the coach's problem with him.

I agree, but when you are named as a make-weight in two possible trade deals, what sort of "feedback" does that give you?

The feedback Andros should be thinking is... I've not been good enough for spurs. My performances have been less than required. But i can take a good penalty kick. Need to improve a lot, and not try to be a 2nd Gareth Bale, I have not got the talent for it...

He is Spurs through and through, surely we need to keep players like him if he wants to stay? Trouble is he has had a couple of good games for England and that now means he is a superstar. He has basically had Lamela for competition in his preferred position so should be a nailed on cert at Spurs but too inconsistent to be a regular, down to him to improve and affect games more regularly

That's the big problem people assume he is Bale in waiting which is completely unfair. Townsend is being harshly judged, sure as hell he hasn't modelled he's game to Bale but like you mentioned and many others throw that at him.

Here again, I blame Ingerlund. Not directly this time, though the entire set-up can suck my dick. However, after his very good start to the season he gets called up. Bugger me if he doesn't score a couple. Comes back and suddenly his game is not nearly as varied. One track mind.

So yeah, up yours Ingerlund. Thanks for nothing. Again.

I like Andros, he really wants to do well with us.

We should have found a role for such passion by now.

This is why I am against system based managers.

Your last point about system based managers is an interesting one. I have often thought about how 3 of our best players in recent years could work in Poch's system:
  • Modric probably not mobile enough to play the role in one of the midfield berths despite his genius in possession of the ball
  • Bale doesn't do enough defensively when without the ball in the forward wide role
  • VDV definitely wouldn't have the desired stamina and workrate to play as one of the forward three in a high pressing team
People can agree/disagree with the above but one of the problems with a lack of flexibility with a 'philosophy/project/system' is that you risk discarding players who have a lot to offer the team just because they do not fit exactly with the requirements of the system. I am totally with the principle of adopting a clear personality for the team/club but just hope it isn't overly restrictive for the reasons above....

Why in September? Why not in May or June? I don't get this.

Well to be fair, it seems to be towards the end of the window where we have tried to use him as a makeweight for these deals. If your club starts offering you out to other sides as part of a transfer I cant imagine that does much for a players morale.

So many good attributes, or potentially good attributes if he can channel them well enough and work on the decision making and passing side of his game. Be a little less trigger happy and bring other players in with the quick driving runs and we have a good player to use. If he doesnt progress further then he will see his days numbered.

Seems a goal for England in your early games can get your rating up but doesnt necessarily mean you've made it.

Hopefully he can work on those areas and we have a Tottenham lad still in and around the team

I'd rather see Lamela play. He's a year younger, and has loads more potential. I don't think Andros will progress much from where he is at. Just doesn't have that raw ball-talent, hes quick and got a hell of a shot, but that's about it. Sell to a mid-table club if he doesn't want to sit on the bench.

Double 00.. Yes Andros has made a stick for his own back in trying to emulate Bale after his transfer to R Madrid. I saw this so many times at WHL.. Andros cutting in from the wing and trying a shot from edge of the box, which usually went into the stands.. The lad needs to revert to basic wing play, cross the ball accurately, take the odd shots in front of goal.. and penalty kicks. Support the Full Back behind him defensively.. just like Lennon did with Charlie and then Walker. This will see him get more game time.
