The only problem with twitter is who decides who is reliable and who is not?
It could get very messy very quickly.

I guess if someone is a reputable journalist, with a blue tick then it's ok. If it's some random like Swansea insider or agent ITK then it's not?

But if it's in a general discussion thread rather than the ITK thread, that is slightly less important. And I guess you'd categorise something like media outlets & journalists as the "reliable" sources.

In theory that's great it's just that i can see people not understanding properly who is reliable and who isn't posting random tweets.

You could. I just remember last time it was all over the place and people posting tweets in both threads and tweets by people nobody had heard of.

You're always going to get that though, you can't control everything and at the end of the day there's always going to be a little leakage of bullshit.

We already see it in the players thread, and even in the ITK discussion thread, if it's already happening, why not give it it's own thread to ensure it's more controlled.

Rather than just fixate on twitter, think about it this way...

ITK Discussion Thread remains as it is, no twitter. Just discussion of ITK.

General Transfer Discussion Thread can go wherever the hell it wants on our squad/transfers, etc.

Player Threads, started by a reputable link from either an article in the media, or a tweet from a reputable source.

Only the Player Threads needs thought about what the source is, and is relatively easy to moderate.

Me. I'm not even joking. As I said, I'm willing to do a list spanning multiple countries. Obviously, I don't know everything but I've been whoring for a long time so I think I have a good idea.

If we can get the tweets to embed properly on the site you'll be able to see by the amount of re-tweets/likes if its an "ok" source. Most will be dismissed.

Final thought, we need to disconnect the RO from twitter. Stuff isn't getting posted into the RO to avoid it being sent to twitter. If stopping that link keeps the ITK more visible and accessible for users that's a win, and we don't need the exposure on twitter in my opinion.

But twitter is what bring in a lot of our visitors (who turn into members). I'd say MORE stuff should go on twitter, not less.

An ITK saying they don't want their information "visible" is just naive. As soon as it's posted it's all around the other forums, shared by people on twitter, etc. Us not putting it on twitter ourselves just limits us while letting other sites get the benefit of it.

That's your call boss, but I'd argue there's a greater responsibility to make sure current users get the info they want, which is made difficult when people won't RO stuff because they don't want it tweeted. I agree there's naivety there, but it's happened all through this window and made the RO relatively redundant. If we want to keep the RO we need to lose the twitter link. If we don't mind the RO being redundant, and we want to drive more traffic from twitter, then we need to re-think how we show and collate the ITK.

I can only recall 1 (maybe 2 posts) from JJ asking for them not to be in the RO. Why did nothing else make it in there? Even the stuff from Ali z, hertyid, etc from other forums didn't make it in. Honestly I don't know and maybe it's our fault for not pushing the RO as much as usual which we'll need to address next time.

I'd like to see reliable tweets passed on and will be happy if it can be done well.

We do need to get everyone on board with posting itk in the ro first. If we could do that then have it not be ro (you can reply to each piece of itk). That would also solve the cryptic itk's.

Then have a general transfer discussion thread, players threads and a wish list thread.

Could that work?

Any info we get should go straight out on Twitter then get that tweet embedded into the RO so people can share etc.

I'm so fucking clever.

That doesn't work though does it as it'll send all our traffic to twitter? We want all the twitter traffic to come here.

It's pretty much the opposite of a good idea :p

Well you don't put all the Info in a tweet though....

1. We get info from, I dunno JJ.

2. The Goat (who is now doing twitter) says "We hear a "Pacey Forward" is on his way..... <insert link to RO with more info>

3. This gets clicked on and takes you to SC site where the tweet sits and the usual info also sits in the RO section.

4. Users read that info and then click the "retweet" button (if they have twitter) and is then sent among their follows in the twitterverse.

Yeah - pretty much a tweet should go out as "Spurs interested in Messi" (or more generic - "Spurs inquired about La Liga Attacking Midfielder", then a link back to the RO post for more details. It gets a little click-baity, but once you establish a reputation for reliable stories, people won't mind as much - and it brings more traffic to the site.

I feel like I saw it a lot, but if it wasn't that's fine. (y)

I follow JJ but I don't really know what it does. I think he's set up his account so you can't follow him now.

@Rob
One thing I've noticed over the years is that following someone does nothing. Maybe I haven't got a box ticked in the settings, but following someone doesn't mean I get a notification when they post or something, which I assume is meant to be the point of it!

When you follow someone, put your cursor over your username in the top right corner. You should get a pull-down menu where you can select Personal Details etc. Click on Your News Feed, and you will get a list of the recent activity of all the users you follow, both posts they make, and reactions to posts. It's what I've used this window to keep track of the ITKs, instead of trawling through the threads :)

I have the same issue regarding JJ, can't seem to follow him. But usually it's pretty easy to find his posts, as they are quoted often.
