We have a icon the mods can use to give people an "informal" warning. We used it during the transfer window. It made little difference.

I didn't get one. Did you give up at some point?

OK, maybe it's all too difficult to moderate, which would be understandable, but which brings me back to the question about why is there such a problem in the first place?

No, I think you're giving people not enough credit.

I made a big bold/coloured post on the final day saying that we'd allow twitter from real media outlets and gave examples, etc.

First twitter in the thread was from 'Swansea Insider".

People are stupid.

Is there any reason why you can't block someone from posting in the ITK thread but allow them to still view it? Is it because you'd have to apply it every day?

We tried it (we can technically do that). The next day they were just as bad again and hadn't learnt their lesson at all. And I'm not talking 1 or 2 people.

This is the problem.

If there's no way of discriminating between innocent one-off errors and persistent stupidity and disruptiveness, then there's something wrong with either the rule or its implementation. The fact that there's also something wrong with the members is another matter!

This is really not a criticism of the moderators. But when constructive, thoughtful contributors get banned because it's too difficult to implement rules judiciously, then there is something wrong and blaming stupid people for it won't solve the problem.

Just some of the ideas gleaned from this thread, this poll could be used to canvas opinion on what people would like to see perhaps in the next January window, poll could be set up to allow people to vote for 3 of their favourite suggestions (we use the 3 dot voting system at work in our Agile teams and it works well)

*Apologies to anyone if I have missed any ideas, it was a quick scan through of this thread...

@Rob, I obviously haven't posted this, it's just a screenshot from a create thread page and let you decide if we need one.

Anyway @Rob , thank you for the opportunity to express my views.

I've had my say and will accept whatever you decide since you're the ones having to do all the work.

I think polling is pointless as no one really has an appreciation of all the issues. Yes, we'll get the most popular choice but that doesn't meant it'll work. Feel free to post it if you want (and I appreciate the effort in making it) but I'm not sure if it'll tell us anything we don't know.

@Rob 150 posts in here is already a lot to look through, so apologies if this is repeating other stuff; but that's pretty much the point.

A RO summary thread would be useful to those who plough through the Discussion thread and then complain about the spam in it, thereby adding to the spam. The current RO ITK forum is great, of course, and alerts us to anything new, but a summary thread could amalgamate the latest news on all players identified by previous ITK.

Something like: three sections with players in each as per their current position; "Looking good", "Still Possible", and "Probably Dead" (or similar); if moving players between the sections is not too much hassle for the moderator/s.

So, e.g.:

(ITK in chronological order, latest first)

LOOKING GOOD:

Neymar

Grey Fox: (15.27 today) DL agrees to new wage structure. Neymar now 88%

Hercules: (14.30 today) Rumours of DL's wage structure flexibility halt Neymar Chav's medical

Trix: (11.44 yesterday) Neymar says he'd like to play for Premiership Champions but DL wage structure a big stumbling block

etc.
Bale

The Goat: (with a cryptic) Walford's oldest minces nicely shaped & appropriately named, BA BA mad. Dawn approaches!

etc

It might also allow the moderation of the Discussion thread to be eased a tad, which might help A&C etc. (whose sterling efforts are much appreciated!)

How about a feature like the report post feature that alerts the mods to ITK? I know it's simple to just copy and paste a post into the RO, but most people are too lazy or just assume someone else will so don't bother.

Hi Rob, thanks for starting this suggestion thread.

Could you possibly reiterate why it would or wouldn't be possible to have a General Transfer Discussion Thread? I've read a number of people suggesting it in here.

Coming back to the issue of people ignoring the rules doesn't seem like a solution.

Thanks in advance.

The ITK Discussion Thread is for discussing ITK.

I'm not sure how we make it any simpler than that?

Of course discussing our general transfer policy isn't allowed in there. Nor fomations/tactics. Noe who you think we should sign. Nor the other million things that aren't discussing the ITK.

It's not that the rules are confusing or hidden. It's that they're ignored. Do we change the rules to something else because people ignore them as they are?

As others have said, you seem to have this problem every single window. Blaming your users for being stupid doesn't seem like a constructive way of solving the issue to me.

There is clearly a desire from a vast number of the sites users for a general transfer discussion thread. So much so that many people (every day of the window) will break the rules and risk losing access by essentially using the ITK discussion thread for this purpose.

Every other football website I've been on has had a general transfer thread, people generally want to have fluid conversations about Spurs in the transfer market.

That's why the kind of off topic talk in the ITK thread keeps happening. It's not through stupidity it's through a lack of the user bases needs being met.

Ok, one suggestion was quite easy to implement.

Can you all please take a look and give me some feedback on it.

Any post by Hercules in the transfer forums should now be highlighted in a slightly different colour.
That's exactly what I had in mind, top work. This will make it so much easier to follow the itk if people are having to catch-up after a few hours away from the thread and hopefully it should mean less ITK gets missed from the RO, except the explicitly stated not-for-RO kind.

Building on this suggestion, we do have a General Non-Spurs Transfer thread here:
http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/ind...-spurs-transfers.113824/page-178#post-5598068

Perhaps the creation a General Spurs Transfer Thread, explicitly NOT for ITK, and placed in this directory, might make the purpose of the daily ITK thread clearer and create a space for the kind of posts and discussions that breach the rules there.

Perhaps a "General Spurs Transfer Thread" and the "General Non-Spurs Transfer Thread" should both be in the Transfer Rumours Forum, then all transfer related gossip is under one forum?

When a piece of ITK is particularly cryptic (Blue and Yellow, Jehovah etc.), maybe there should be a singular thread discussing the potential solutions/logic/guesses at players etc.?

Far too many spams given out in the discussion thread when there is cryptic ITK or ITK-related posts by some overzealous users.

Loving most of the suggestions so far though.

I think it is inconsistently applied though - id much rather see it go slightly off topic around general transfers than read x amount of posts about people's toilet habits.

Do you really think people would be capable of keeping the ITK to the ITK thread and the non-ITK discussion to the other thread?

I can tell you now all that a second thread will achieve (especially a more relaxed one) is that EVERYTHING is posted in there instead.

You're likely correct, but would that be a problem if it lowers A&C's blood pressure?
