    From Soccernet.

    Tottenham Hotspur

In: Ricardo Rocha (Benfica, undisclosed), Ben Alnwick (Sunderland, £900,000), Abel Taarabt (Lens, loan), Oscar Jansson (Karlsund, loan)
Out: Calum Davenport (West Ham, £3 million), Marton Fulop (Sunderland, £500,000), Edgar Davids (Ajax, free), Reto Ziegler (Sampdoria, loan), Mark Yeates (Leicester, loan)

No surprise in an eclectic assortment of arrivals at White Hart Lane.

Ben Alnwick follows the template for young English signings, Abel Taarabt and Oscar Jansson the fondness for youthful recruits abroad. In the short term, anyway, the most important is the Portuguese international Ricardo Rocha, especially given Ledley King's continued injury problems. The profit generated by Calum Davenport's move to West Ham helped.

The success of Tom Huddlestone, one of the emerging Englishmen, enabled Edgar Davids' departure.

Gareth Bale, following in the line of earlier talented teenagers, was targeted. That he stays at Southampton means another move may be made in the summer.

Who is Oscar Jansson? Details please.
  2. Vegas
Isn't he a striker? Nicknamed Elvis?

The window was equal to Christmas...We gave the santa clauser our list but the old bugger neglected us.
  3. Langers
I thought he was a very young Keeper.
  4. JonnySpurs
Nope Elvis is Dag Alexander Olsen, who they've failed to mention here, not sure exactly when we signed him tho. Oscar Jansson is a young keeper but I didn't think it was ever officially announced that we'd signed him!??

They've also not got old Polly on there....by that of course I mean our mate Dean Parrett - the next stevie gerrard!

i remember ages ago that we announced that we'd signed someone (think it was this oscar dude) to join our youth/resere team in january - think he was a keeper - probably didnt announce when he had arrived because they thought it wasnt that interesting maybe? unless he is owned by us, but hasnt flown over and started training yet maybe?
  6. Vegas
Thanks - i knew it was something along those lines.

We wont be signing Bale in the summer, looks like he's going to manusa. Dissappointed we didnt get Barnes either from Derby. Feels like we have missed the boat again.

More negativity. It was never likely we would get Bale - he is pretty much the hottest property in the Championship right now, and like Walcott before him can pretty much choose where he goes. So no real suprises there. If he does go to Man U, then I would rather we made a big effort to sign Heinze, who I think would be far more suitable for us. We need some experienced, strong, agressive players in the side a la Heinze, not more young lightweights a la Bale, especially in defence.

As for Barnes - he did have a medical, but talks broke down. Don't know why, but there is always a possibility that this will be revived in the summer. There is no suggestion, as with Bale, that he wants to go somewhere else.

Furthermore, we had success in signing Taarabt, probably the most highly-rated youngster in France right now who many were after, and Alnwick, the England U21 goalkeeper. If a club is successful in signing even 1 out of 3 or 4 targets, then that can be considered a pretty good transfer window, so I think we have done very well, and have not at all as you put it missed the boat.

    who is Oscar Jansson?

    Exactly!

While its good to buy and build for the future we should have got 2 more players for now, a left winger and routledge would have added much to the busy period ahead.
  10. StokeSpur
Yes but Ali, why cant we combine both buying youngsters and players we need NOW?
Do you think we shoult not have signed any additions to the first team this Jan? or would you liked to have seen a couple come in?

How i see it Comolli is a talent scout and recomends players to Levy, Levy does the deal,we buy, Jol has to manage them and the team.

Jol; I desperatly need a left winger for our run in.

Comolli; I have identified an embrio that has potential, its 3 weeks old and already kicking.

Levy; Right i'm off to tap up its mother.

Jol; Hello? Hello? can anyone hear me? wheres my left winger?

Ok joking aside i think we should be protecting our possition not leaving ourselves runrable, two injurys, Lennon and Steed, and were fukced.

It's written in football folklore that the best players aren't available in January and if they are they're heavily over priced. only the desperate sign players in January, I know we are not West Ham but look at the money they spent on transfers & wages only to get slightly above average players.

The only player we were linked with that I had any desire t o sign was Davies from West Brom, I thought he was the most needed but he isn't worth the £10m being touted, neither was Bale.

I just feel in the summer the manager & DOF will have a better overview of where we are and be able to indentify players we need in a less rushed situation which is better for the club & players

    From skysports.com...

Tottenham have secured the services of young Swedish keeper Oscar Jansson from Karlslund.
The 15-year-old has already undertaken two trials with the club and has now passed a medical with the White Hart Lane outfit.
The youngster, who is regarded as one of the most promising keepers in Scandinavia, is expecting the join Spurs' Under-18 squad.
"I've been for a medical," confirmed Jansson to Nerikes Allehanda. "I will be part of their Under-18 squad, just below their reserves.
"As I understand it I will be one of three keepers in the squad."
Spurs were not the only interested parties in Jansson's services, but he jumped at the chance to forge a career in England.
"Helsingborg or Orebro were interested, but I still felt that I had to take the chance in England when I got it," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Spurs have handed a trial to Hogaborg BK starlet Samuel Aziz, although he is not expecting to make the journey until his ankle injury heals. "I want to go when I am in the best possible shape, right now I have got problems with my ankles," he told the Expressen.

Aziz, according to some, is an equivalent of Lennon, right winger type whose fast with occassional goalscoring.

I'm satisfied with the dealings we have made last month.

Taarbat and Parrett appear to be the most promising. I browsed a few QPR forums, and they rate the lad very highly. Taarbat has already put in some decent performances in the reserve team, so it will be interesting to see whether he figures in the first team squad this season.

Sad to see Davids go, would have liked to have kept him for the UEFA cup at least. We've missed his tenacity and drive in the centre this season. I for one would like to thank him, and wish him a happy return to Ajax.

Interestingly, Ziegler has been loaned out again, clearly somebody still rates him. Reports' from the reserves suggest that his performance's have improved measurably over the last few months', so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

I'm still sceptical as to whether we have enough cover in central defence. Rocha appears to be a decent acquisition, but I would have liked to seen another addition, possibly Distin, but I think we should have really moved heaven and earth to bring Ayala to WHL.

I wouuld have liked to see a few more go (the usual suspects) and bring in Bale. I know we have probably lost him to Man Utd but there is still a chance we will get him in the summer. I hope so.
  15. JimmyWibble
And surely if we move for Heinze in the summer and are successful, then we have a player with experience of the premiership, rather than potential, which is Bale.....

Not perfect, but as long as we're making forward steps....

You forgot the next Gerrard....Dean Parrett...almost 2 millions pounds (upto) according to reports
  17. Ali
Err... well we did didn't we? Firstly I was going to talk about the Jan transfer window, but Boaman has said pretty much what I was going to say there, so that partly answers it.

Secondly, aylespurs was saying we'd missed the boat by not signing Bale and Barnes. i.e. both players for the future. OK we didn't get them, but we did get Taarabt and Alnwick who are also players for the future. My point is that there is always competition for the brightest young stars, and managing to sign 2 out of 4 of those targets was pretty good luck I'd say!

As for players for now - well we did, we signed Rocha, who in my opinion is a far better player than Davenport, and one that we need far more right now than a left winger with King being out for most of the rest of the season.

And on the subject of left winger - again I refer back to Boaman's post about the Jan transfer window. You show me a decent left-winger who would really make a difference to us who was actually available in January? I doubt if you can.
  18. MJsDeputy
Was it due to the 50k that Spurs are in dispute with Derby on Elhamdoui loan fee?...if it was, then a complete bussiness disaster!
  19. Ali
Exactly what I said above. I would way prefer Heinze. He is a strong, agressive and experienced defender, who is also good going forward and can cross a ball and score goals. Bale has stacks of potential and a lot of skill but is still a skinny young boy who I think would initially struggle in the Premiership if thrown straight in at left-back. I personally am rather pleased we didn't sign him. I don't think he is the answer to our problems at all.
