Why Hoops?

Genuine question, as far as a sporting achievement, its right up there.
Not a particular great fight, but he won against a slow and aging champion, in a division which doesn't have too much quality.

But I'd be interested to know why you think this is a better achievement over others this last year?

I do agree with Tibsy, it should be based on just sporting achievement, rather than 'personality', but as such it is what it is, and the beeb probably have a lot of influence over it all.

And you know they love a yes man!

He beat a champ nobody else could for 11 years. The 2nd longest serving champ in Heavyweight boxing history.

I wouldnt say it was an upset, because people who follow boxing thought it was a 50/50 fight. But, its a bigger achievement than the other IMO. A more important sport.

In all fairness he was a huge underdog. I didn't hear anybody saying Klitschko was past it before the bout.

Casual fans of course. But people who followed the sport said he had a good chance.

Well i follow boxing fairly loosely but i didn't know what to think. I certainly saw improvement in him and mentioned it in here a couple of years back, but opinions were so split and his performance against Chisora wasn't overly impressive. Haye really didn't help at all and i don't blame them not wanting that fight now. It could have been a great fight now on reflection.

As a recreational boxer and a forum member of a boxing website, there were lots of people pointing out Furys style advantage, myself included.

Whats there to be confused about? He won his fight and deserves recognition!

I'm confused that you said I was right but then I was wrong?

I have no idea what was said and typed and clicked google and an article from the mirror came up to which I quoted.

Why are you being all weird about it? :cautious:

*edit.

I've read a bit more about it now and he's not supporting paedophilia but lumps it in with homosexuality etc. Which is bad to compare but not put in the context the way the mirror put it.

Thanks for wasting my time :shifty:
