Martin Jol suspected we would land Feyenoord in the Round of 32 of the UEFA Cup.

We were duly paired with the Rotterdam side in the draw made in Nyon early this afternoon, a match up that will see the manager make a return to his native country in February.

"I said it yesterday that we would probably get Feyenoord," reacted Martin. "It is not a bad draw for us, they are probably not as good as when they played Spurs in the final of the UEFA Cup in 1974, but it is still a big club who get crowds averaging 45-50,000.

"It will be difficult going over there because they are strong at home, but we've got the advantage of playing later at home.

"Feyenoord are in the top five in Holland and are normally in the top three. There is another Dutch club, AZ Alkmaar, who beat Seville on Thursday and are now in the top three instead of Feyenoord.

"They had to sell Dirk Kuyt to Liverpool, but they have still got bundles of talent. They've got a young squad who have done well and beat a good Wisla Krakow side this week but I feel if we play with confidence like we have been then we can go further.

"It could have been worse and it could have been better, but I am looking forward to going to Rotterdam."

The draw was also made for the last 16 in which, should we get past Feyenoord, we will take on SC Braga of Portugal or Serie A side Parma.

"If you look at the teams in the last 16, Braga are strong and are the third team in Portugal with Porto and Benfica," added Martin. "Parma are a good team and are a contender in Europe."

The away leg is scheduled to take place in Rotterdam on February 14/15, with the home leg due on February 22.

Should we progress past Feyenoord, either SC Braga or Parma will await in the last 16 with the away leg first on March 8 and the home return on March 14/15.

    tough two matches

    Feyenoord v TOTTENHAM
in next round and if we get through got a tough match against Braga or Parma

If we played like we did yesterday, would should get to the semi or maybe the final
  2. changispur
    prefer feyenoord to benfica anytime
  3. GlennHoddle
We def owe them one since 1992. Was it Paul Allen who gave away the ball which led to Feyenoord scoring.
You'd have to fancy Spurs at home to anyone so it comes down to whether or not we can keep it tight away from home.
  4. never easy with spurs
i don't think this is such a bad draw. the kind of form we are in suggests that we could beat anyone on our day - as long as it's at white hart lane! we've got a big and talented squad now, and i feel really confident that we will win the cup

Could someone post on here as soon as the date is confirmed for the away leg. Was just about to book flights but see that it's either 14th or 15th...............

why are there fans band for two games
  8. carpee
Fans are banned due to constant trouble during their Uefa cup match with Nancy the game had to be stopped for 30 mins due to crowd trouble.
  9. Ali
Just when I was thinking about going to that game. Even if not banned, you've kind of put me off now.
  10. carpee
 kind of in the same boat Ali did appeal until i read about that especially given what has happenned in the past with the two clubs in tow minds now.

WHY do they punish Feyenoord with an empty stadium? Wouldn't the appropriate punishment that spares the other team's fans be to force Feyenoord to play their 'home' game in the oppositions stadium (and no tickets for the Feyenoord fans of course).

This 'punishment' hurts more than one party.

come on yids! we can win this one

I don't suppose anyone knows...? But it would be interesting to hear how the Dutch feel about drawing us...

    From Feyenoord.com

Erwin Koeman did not get his preferred opponent when Feyenoord were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur in the last 32 of the Uefa Cup Friday afternoon. ‘I would have preferred Panathinaikos. This is really a tough draw,’ said the coach. ‘Spurs have got a good team. They are above all physically strong and on paper much better than Blackburn Rovers. But you always have a chance and they are sure to be great games.’

Koeman admits he’s looking forward to tasting the ambience against at White Hart Lane. ‘I’ve been there before with PSV; it’s a fantastic stadium. To get a good result there though we’ll have to equip ourselves against Spurs’ physical strength. On the other hand English sides always give you space to play. The match against Blackburn recently confirmed that. But I rate Tottenham higher.’

Technical manager Peter Bosz was immediately reminded of the matches he played against the Lilywhites in the shirt of Feyenoord. In 1992 the Rotterdammers edged out Spurs in the quarterfinal of the Cup Winners’ Cup over two legs, with a heroic performance in N17. ‘That was a fantastic experience. We’d won 1-0 at home and it finished 0-0 there. You might expect it to have been a boring game, but it had everything and it was played in a wonderful atmosphere. We’re now hoping for two football carnivals. Spurs are slight favourites, but we have already shown we can win when it’s not expected this season.’

Love the bit about Blackburn hahaha

Mr Koeman is right to be wary.

As a kid, more years ago than I will admit, I had to choose whether to support Spurs or Chelsea. Watching them last night I was more convinced than ever that I chose right! If they keep playing at that sort of level there'll be another European trophy in the cabinet.

The draw i was hoping for!

I wanted a tough tie to test our resolve
We can def take Feyenoord and it will be good to see how the game turns out.
Martin Jol knows the Dutch league and the Dutch style, so he'll have a idea already how to beat them.

Plus, There's a small matter that....
    Tottenham FOOKING HATE Feyenoord!!

    Seeya in Rotterdam

I just hope our fans behave ourselves in Holland (if allowed to go) and at home so we don't end up getting banned too. Let's make sure we the fans do ourselves proud as well as the team.

I'm Dutch and NOT a Feyenoord and TBF most Feyenoordfans don't fancy their chances against Spurs according to many posts I've read on different dutch sites.

And if I'm honest (I am!) I hope and expect Spurs to beat Feyenoord twice because we have the best footballing squad if you compare player by player.
I actually have to say Feyenoord is a more European experienced team but less talented!

Only young midfielder Jonathan de Guzman is a very good player and we should take care of him. And on his day old Pierre van Hooydonck (36) can be a pain in the ass.

But I expect us to go through!
  19. 18Klinsmann
Feyenoord are probably not the weakest side we could have played, but with Jol's background and our history with them it is an interesting draw. It is better than playing East European opponents you know little about, but have to travel far to play.
Braga and Parma are both good teams, but whereas Braga are doing fairly well Parma are struggling in Serie A. Neither of them are great teams, so if we play well we should have a good chance of getting through to the semis. If we don't I will be disappointed, but not surprised because the knock out stages are where you really need experience and a bit of luck. I think the semis should be the aim for us. Anything can happen from there and we can't expect to beat the likes of Seville and Werder Bremen although we are certainly in with a good chance.
