    SPURS NEWS

Following the final round of group matches in the Champions League on Wednesday night, we now know the identity of the eight teams joining us in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup after finishing third in their groups.

    source - official site

Werder Bremen, CSKA Moscow, Shaktar Donetsk, Benfica, Spartak Moscow, Bordeaux, Steaua Bucharest and AEK Athens will be in the draw when the knockout stages resume in February.

Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen look the strongest of the eight having pushed Chelsea and Barcelona all the way in qualifying only to lose a winner takes all final match against the reigning champions in the Nou Camp.

CSKA Moscow, meanwhile, won the UEFA Cup as recently as 2005.

Dinamo Bucharest - cheer us to top spot!

Our UEFA Cup group will be decided when we face the Romanians at the Lane on Thursday week, December 14.

It's now a shoot-out in the final group game - a draw is good enough for us to clinch that crucial top spot but Dinamo can nick it with a win at the Lane.

So why is top spot so important?

Group winners will be drawn against a third placed team from one of the other UEFA Cup groups, with those in second place facing the prospect of taking on one of the eight teams above who finished third in their respective Champions League groups.

To secure your tickets for the visit of Dinamo, go to our online ticketing service HERE, call 0870 420 5000 or visit the Park Lane Ticket Office in person between 9.30am-5.00pm.

Some good teams in there, but anyone to really see us shaking in our boots?

This could be our best chance of Silverware this season, with some of our players still more suited to European style football.

Beat Benfica in the semi, to take on Werder Bremen in the final?

Werder Bremen, CSKA, Benfica, Bordeaux... all sides who are probably at the same level as us... so top spot is quite important!

Werder Bremen looked a really high quality, well-organised side when they played Chelski. I would worry about playing them.

CSKA look good going forward, but were a mess defensively against Hamburg.

Man U made Benfica look vulnerable yesterday, but then Man U would make Fort Knox look vulnerable, the way they are playing at present.

I saw Bordeaux play once earlier this year and was not overly impressed. Plus we beat them away in pre-season.

Did we not beat Bordeaux in pre-season?

Werder Bremen are a quality side! I would be very nervous if we faced them early on in the knockout stages, as they have to be the odds-on favorites to win the whole thing by now. They really pulled a coup when they pried Diego away from Porto last summer- he has been the difference for them, and it looks like Dunga has noticed because Diego is back in the selecao where he has always belonged. Back when Hoddle tried to sign him, I was drooling at the prospect of Diego plying his trade in the lilleywhite as he is pure class.

I think we are capable of beating any of them teams. Only team I was impressed with during Champions League was Werder Bremen but I think we can beat them.

werder bremen and benfica would be hard to play against but the hardest for me is CSKA moscow

they have some good players in carvalho and vagner love and playing in russia in feb wouldnt be ideal

lets just get first place and play a third placed team from uefa cup

heard that the draw next friday will also tell us the teams we will play if we beat our opponents in the next round

I've always fancied us for a place in the quarter finals and see no reason to change my mind.
After that it's a bit of a lottery, as any cup competition is, with the likes of those already mentioned alongside us and Seville as potential winners.

It's strange though that last year I couldn't get any enthusiasm for the cups and was only interested in our league position yet this year I'm more interested in winning a trophy.

After tonight's results, we have the identities of four of our possible opponents in the last 32 (assuming tomorrow's result goes our way, naturally).

    The old enemy Feyenoord
    Zulte-Waregem
    Hapoel tel-Aviv
    Fenerbahce

I think I can guess what the favoured draw will be.

The big news, of course, being that Palermo are out, although they don't seem to have been that bothered (Reminder: Palermo v. Roma live on Bravo on Sunday).
