I wouldn't even say that. Most of the stuff he was coming out with yesterday was laughable. Half the time he just repeated the last sentence of the main commentator. The rest of the time he came out with gems like "Pirlo's not retired yet". Really??? The bloke called Pirlo running around on the pitch in the game we're currently watching hasn't retired yet? Well thanks for highlighting that in your monotonous weasel voice.

And when Hart came to give Balotelli his chance which was cleared off the line 'Hart did well there not to commit himself'

What?

I will be amazed if he has the mic in the next game. Well actually I really will because ITV are doing it, but the point remains.

He's thicker than mince but with a sloooowwwerr staccato delivery. Tbh that is a skill. Just not one anyone wants.

In fact. Talking of mince why hasn't Ince been given a gig? ( it rhymes with mince )

I thought he was good.

He did revert to some clichés but his own analysis was good.

He was also too close to the mic (nervous) and his partner (or producer) should have made him aware.

I don't remember him commentating on a live game before, BBC should know better.

Mate I watched and listened to the game sober and I can honestly say I would have preferred to listen to Sandro humming.

It was toe curling.

I agree with Tobi, I thought the delivery was poor, but some of the points he made were quite interesting. Saying that I did use the red button to get rid of him and put the five live audio on instead.

ITV just announed Gus Poyet, Fabio Cannavaro and Andros Townsend as pundits

plus a few regulars like Patrick Viera, Lee Dixon, Roy Keane and Ian Wright

BBC have Thierry Henry, Neil Lennon, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Juninho, Rio Fernindand, Brad Friedel, Robbie Savage, Chris Waddle and Alan Hansen

Those in bold are worth listening too. I think I saw Seedorf once too.

Oh and you didn't mention Adrian Childs who is so fucking useless he is actually putting me off football

The funniest (and also most irritating thing) about Phil Neville's commentary was when he kept saying "no need to panic, plenty of time left in the game".

It was valid after 60mins, starting to get annoying at 80 mins and by 89 mins just downright hilarious :D.

"Plenty of time to get back into this"......."Er, Phil, final whistle's gone mate."

BBC has it for me by a long way. I am warming to Rio, he has a pretty good footballing brain on his shoulders quite like Gary Neville. Just wish Savage would fall into the sea thou.

The BBC could have a panel of John Terry and El Hadj Diouf and be hosted by Robert Mugabe and I'd still choose them over ITV......... I'd probably reconsider if they had Sol Campbell though ;)

I like Rio but I agree, Savage is a cock.

Has Andros Townsend been on yet?
For Belgium v Algeria game mate, they asked a few questions about dembele (he said he needs to score more and doesn't know why he hasn't) and Chadli (didn't show a lot at the start of the season but got better at the end of the season) I didn't hear them ask anything about poch though..

I was wrong about Philip Neville

He's alright. Just not the best co commentator yet.

Maybe he needs to be the commentator.

He just had a bad first day.

Thierry Henry's last game as a pundit for the world cup (MLS starts friday) as much as he's a gooner he's actually a decent, fair, insightful pundit. For me, he's been one of the best to listen to through all the coverage so far.

Nah, Henry for me was smug, a self appointed Mr Cool who after a decade in the UK still couldn't understand the English sense of humour, he got all defensive when Lineker took the piss a few times. He also seems to have had a charisma bypass at some point in his life. Plus he's fkn ar*e.
