I know it changes from game to game re systems and who we’re playing, but on the whole, If everyone is fit, I don’t think Poch would ever drop Lloris, Toby, Jan, Dembele, Dier, Dele, Eriksen and Kane.

People may believe Dier shouldn’t be on that list but in my opinion, and from what we’ve seen these past 2/3 seasons, Poch loves him and doesn’t ever drop him.

That leaves 3 positions. Lamela, Son and Lucas are fighting for one position and Trippier, Aurier, Rose and Davies are fighting for the other 2. Injuries always happen so the likes of other big players like Wanyama, Sanchez and Winks (and the AM’s) will always get games (depending on formations of course).

Lucas has a different skill set to Son. I'd start Lucas over Son every time.

That does not mean Son is bad - on the contrary, I love Son, and think he adds a lot to this squad. But if I prefer Dele-Eriksen-Lucas in terms of flexibility, creativity, and goals.

But Lucas hasn’t even started a game in the league yet and Son is our second highest goal threat...

Aye yay yay...

Only undroppable player IMO is Harry Kane anyone else underperforming regularly I'd drop.
Kane even when he is underperforming can come up and win a game for us I mean against Palace he was not at his best but still won us the game because he never gives up and always finds himself in the right position.

Dele isn’t up droppable. Doubt Poch is brave enough. Son Lamela moura could all take his place without too much concern imo.

Dele is a key member of our first XI and starts pretty much every game for a reason. It's not that Poch is not brave enough, it is that Poch knows a lot more about football than any of us.

I can't believe people actually think that Dele should be dropped, there were people online on Twitter last night saying they want Lucas in over Alli on a permanent basis...its basically shiny new toy syndrome.

Alli is undroppable because he understands the role he needs to play in the team, he's been working in this team for 3 years and he is a big reason why we're so cohesive, he knows the patterns of play off by heart. Whats more he has an understanding with Eriksen that we've all seen and it would be a good idea to get the absolute very best out of the best striker in Europe, if you drop Alli you're not doing that.

The statistics tell a lot... We have played 28 league games ...

This is how many league games each of our squad have started. I would suggest those in bold are undroppable in Poch's eyes. A fully fit and focused Alderweireld is also undroppable. Son evidently became droppable once Lamela returned to full fitness and Moura signed. Dembele is clearly droppable as he cannot play Sat/Weds/Sat week in week out. I have underlined and italic'ed the three players I think are the untouchables, players we would really miss if not playing. I personally believe that Dier has benefitted from injuries to Alderweireld and Wanyama.

Dier 27
Eriksen 27
Vertonghen 27
Kane 26

Dele 26
Lloris 26

Son 20
Davies 20
Sanchez 21
Trippier 16
Dembele 15
Sissoko 12
Aurier 12
Alderweireld 10
Winks 9
Rose 5
Lamela 3
Wanyama 2
Llorente 1
KWP 1
Vorm 1
Moura 0
Foyth 0

All players are droppable - for whatever reason. Kane didn't play last night for example - and he's as close to undroppable as they come.

The players that I'd hate to see leave our Club would be (in no particular order) : Vertonghen, Dier, Alli, Kane, Son.

We've had to play Gazzaniga in a League match....and Vorm gives us a chance at winning the FA Cup. That is an important role.

Would you keep Vorm in goal for the upcoming FA Cup game versus Swansea?

I wouldn't. We've now reached the stage in the FA Cup where we need to put out our best team if we're to go all the way.

Goalies are less impacted by the number of games than outfield players. We need to play Lloris the rest of the way.

Vorm will play all the way to the final.

Do you think that's smart?
Yes and no. I get what you are saying about playing your best - but life is more complicated.

The unwritten contract between manager and back-up keeper at top clubs (who is usually capable of playing at the league level) is generally - "I want you to come here, and work hard, even though you will not play any league matches. In return, I will play you in Cup matches." That keeps the player incentivized to turn up to training everyday - working hard to improve himself, and his GK teammates. Its important, from a man-management standpoint, that the manager honor that arrangement.

Look at the recent League Cup final - Ospina v. Bravo. Same situation.

In which case I'm not sure you understand the tactics that Poch tends to use.

Dier is quite possibly the most important person in the side for what Poch expects from the side. Dier gives the side the option to seamlessly switch between an almost infinite amount of different formations. More so than any other player. He may not be the greatest in any of the positions that he can play in, but he is better than every one else in be able to do so adequately. He can play any position in a back 4 or even a back 5, as well as being able to play all positions across the midfield. He also does not look entirely out of place when he finds himself in the oppositions box.
I would say Dier is a important player of our team, but not undroppable, like a Kane or Eriksen.
If you remember Wanyama has also played that role, dropping between the cbs, for example last season when Jan or Toby was injured, Dier played CB with either one (instead of Wimmer), so don't tell me I don't understand the tactics.
It's a fact Dier has benefited from injuries to Toby and Victor

Good point - but is that the agreement between this coach and Vorm? Can you remember what happened last season? I can't.

Our best chance of winning the FA Cup is with Lloris in goal.

Our best chance of winning the FA Cup is with Lloris in goal.

Last year, Vorm played in FA Cup Quarterfinals v. Millwall
Lloris played in Semi-Final v. Chelsea - but, Vorm was out injured.
Vorm started and lost the only League Cup Match (liverpool)

2015/16
Vorm started and lost only League Cup Match (Arsenal)
Vorm started all FA Cup matches - lost to Palace in 5th Round

2014/15
Vorm played all League Cup through Semis - But Lloris played in Final, Vorm on bench
Vorm played all FA Cup matches - lost in 4th Round.

So, there is precedent to Lloris coming in - from Poch's first season, but not until the final. I think this year, Vorm plays if we make the final - but I could see where Poch brings Lloris back into the line-up.

They're all important. That's why we have a squad as opposed to a team.

Yes some might get the nod over others more often than not, but let's not ignore the professional manner all show when asked to come in and cover.

Total respect for those who feature less, but still give it their all when called upon.
