damn. would have been a decent 4th striker. Imagine him and crouch away from home or when we are chasing a game! All we'd need is delap and we'd be sorted away from home!

Well, I'd expect nothing less, really. This was from The Guardian in 2006 :

PORTSMOUTH
Harry Redknapp has pulled out of the race for 6ft 8in striker Nikola Zigic after watching the £5m Red Star Belgrade hitman play against Cork last week. He was the tallest bloke on the pitch but never won a single header all night,' said Redknapp.
Useless lump.

Crouch isn't a donkey...

we all have our opinions, but he is not good enough for the first team, he is onl;y useful to have for the last 15 mins of a match when we need to change tactics / approach and go direct, just about ok for the squad due to height and becuase of that to change approiah but thats about it .

without checking out crouch's stats i'm positive his goals and assists haven't come in the last 15 mins? Therefore if he scores/assists within the game then he is worthy of a first team place at the mo with the strikers we currently have surely?

People dont give Crouch the credit he is due. He poses such a threat to the opposition's defence that they, most of the time, need to adapt their game plan to deal with him.

The defence will invariably try and stop the supply to crouch from the wings, but that constant closing down of the corners of the pitch leaves a lot of space for a good footballing side (like us) to exploit the space. Crouch creates the space for Kranjcar, Modric and Huddlestone to pick out the passes.

What can their defence do? Play a high line and close the space for the midfield which allows Lennon and Defoe to get in behind from passes and Crouch's knockdowns? or play deep and risk allowing Crouch get the headers in the box?

The confusion he causes is creditable in its own right

but Zigic on the other hand is not as versatile as Crouch and judging by the Harry quotes i think its unlikely

I think people in general are too hard on the taller players around the world, they aren't as graceful as some people would like but Crouch and to a lesser extent Zigic provide things that are needed at times. Ugly to watch but sometimes very effective when the long ball or direct route is needed.

While I don't want Zigic as we barely have a spot for Crouch(who is better) I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to have another tall man to back up Crouch in case of injury and to provide depth. If it was for a small amount of money I don't think it would too bad of a deal to get him but for any thing other than a couple million

Was at the same game and i can tell you Zigic is an absolute waste of space, beaten to every high ball by a defender way smaller than him.
Very poor.
Harry's assessment is the exact same as what i said after we were linked with him not long after that game
