Debrief:
GK- Lloris- Achieved
CM- Moutinho- Player wages stopped us getting it over the line
CF- Remy was the one we ended up going for, Chelsea tried to purchase the player, at this point negotiations ended with Spurs and was too late to resurrect.
Player 4- Was Dempsey, spent all day trying to do the Moutinho deal and when Remy wasn't going to happen attention turned to Dempsey. Knew he was available all day and in the end made the decision to go for him as he can play Midfield/AM/CF. By no means was one of our targets, but similarly as with Rafa he was an option that became available and hopefully will be a good addition to the squad.
In the end the club believes we have bought some excellent players in Vertonghen, Lloris, Dembele, Dempsey, Sigurdsson and Adebayor. The issue we now have is no direct Luka replacement which translates to Dembele playing deeper than he has in the past. But the kid is super talented and has moved back from a CF originally to an attacking midfielder to a cm under Jol- let's hope he can do well for us.
You can all now pass judgment on when you feel we should of signed players, why did we leave it late, etc etc. The main factor we have had is many of the players we have gone for did not want to sign, and to sign would only accept astronomical wages.
This is the squad we have now until Jan, so let's all try and get behind the team and support the manager because it isn't going to change for the immediate future.
Just a word on formations and players, Ade hasn't been starting because he has had zero pre season and isn't anywhere near fit enough, he is on a two week intensive programme. Sandro as well has had a busy summer and is tiring out quickly, the only thing that will benefit him is rest. Hopefully we will be able to field what is near to our strongest 11 vs. Reading.
