Seems I touched a nerve.:D Twas only taking the piss. My maternal half of the family is from Louisiana so many a family reunion happens down there. It does makes me chuckle that an Englishman went to 'Frenchest' state in the union.

Got a question - So you went to a huge SEC school so I know you went to a tailgater or two. I was trying to explain the experience to someone on this board but I think I pretty much failed to convey the enormity of it all. How was your experience and does anything in the 'motherland' compare?

No worries mate I was going to reply about how we're ranked higher but then realised the very real possibility of that backfiring on me within less than a month. Ole Miss, @ Florida, Georgia, Miss St and then 'Bama is a horrendous run of games to have.

Only went to LSU because it would be different to the unis along the eastern seaboard. If I had known it would take 23 hours via Chicago and then a 2 and half hour Greyhound to get to there I probably would have chosen differently.

Nothing in the UK compares to a tailgate. Beer, cajun/creole food and football is there anything finer in life? At LSU the tailgate is a mini city (it would be the sixth largest city by population in the state) that pops up on a Friday night and begins partying at about 8 in the following morning so you tend to be well fed and tipsy by the time the game kicks off in the evening but the thing that stood out for me was how hospitable everyone is. In the UK football matches tend to have a heavy and visible police presence where opposition fans are kept separate so seeing no police while strangers and even opposition fans happily intermingle and share beer and food was an odd sight. You just wander up to someone and ask what they're cooking and 9 times out of 10 they'll make sure you get a plate of food.

If I were asked to recommend anything from my life that people should experience then it would be a tailgate at a big college football school in the South as not even the Super Bowl can compete with it. I know the SEC has a reputation for being arrogant but it's true when they say in the SEC it just means more :D

Hi mate,

out of interest how much of a discount do you get on student tickets vs. the general public? Some of the prices for games are crazy for these big college teams (upwards of $100) so I assume students get them for much less?

There's a massive difference. When I was there my student season ticket was about $120 while the general public was having to pay up to $250 for just the 'Bama game. This season the cheapest general public ticket for the Georgia game is $150 while the cheapest student ticket is $25.

Nice. Id love to go to one of the big college games. I did a road trip all around the south a couple of years ago and went to loads of the college towns I cluding baton rouge but unfortunately was during the summer so they obviously weren't playing. O e if these days I'll have to try and head back during the autumn.

I would recommend on that road trip that you pass through Oxford, Mississippi to visit Ole Miss less for the football and more for the erm.....sights of Ole "where even Miss America gets red-shirted" Miss.

But if you flirt with any of them then their lover/brother will try and kill you.

Tom Herman manages to blow a 21-point lead and hold out for a win. Impressive.

I will say that Ehlinger actually looks like a decent QB. The kid looked like shit in week 1 and i thought he was just yet another in the line of wildly disappointing QBs at UT (following in the footsteps of Case McCoy, Garret Gilbert, Connor Wood, David Ash, Tyrone Swoopes and Shane Buchele) but gotta admit the kid looks like he is actually a pretty good player.

*cough, cough, cough*

I think it's because you changed your avatar that your boys spit the bit. Thanks for keeping our spot warm. Nothing like southern hospitality. :D:ROFLMAO:

Happy to help. It's good manners to help the less fortunate and not being a P5 team you need all the help you can get in order to make the playoffs.

We can still make the playoffs. Just need to beat Georgia, 'Bama and win the SEC. :cautious:

I expected nothing less than the humble selflessness displayed by your lot.

Yeah, it's been tough being out there all alone with the national broadcast contract, keeping all the bowl money to ourselves, special playoff consideration, etc. The struggle is real. If only there was a conference that would take us.

We thought about the SEC but Vandy vetoed it. They've grown to enjoy the kowtowing as the only constituent institution keeping you eligible for NCAA participation.

Piece of piss.:) Makes you wonder why you guys f*ck it up every year...and then end up meeting us in a cereal bowl.

yesterday was pretty much the perfect day. Got up and watched Spurs beat Cardiff from 9-11, then watched Texas beat OU from 11-2:30. Rough patch from 2:30-3:30 when I had to entertain myself for an hour and then got to watch the Astros beat the Indians.

After 8 years of misery the Horns are back. There are going to be bumps but Herman is the real deal and he's assembled a staff of great assistants. UT didnt out-talent OU yesterday, they out-coached them.

I agree Herman seems to be the real deal. Smart guy, charismatic, brought in a good staff, i think he could be the real deal for the Horns.

Will be interesting to see if he can recruit. For the past decade it seemed like the team just didn't judge talent particularly well. Granted it started under Mack who after Colt seemed sure he could win regardless of who was taking snaps but it started a run of miss after miss on QBs (not even making offers to Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin or Manziel,), but they were missing on OL and RBs as well. If Herman can reverse the recruiting issues he seems like he is a good enough coach to do some damage with the Horns.

Gilbert was supposed to be a lock to succeed. No 2 pro style QB in the country coming out of high school, it just didnt work out. Interesting caveat, though - he's the only Longhorn QB with a super bowl ring as he was on the Patriots practice squad one of the years they won.

Harbaugh finally breaks out the spread offense and we dominate a top 15 opponent. Love it. Fun game. First time i had fun watching this offense in a looooong time. The spread is so entertaining and not only that, the future at QB looks real bright when Shea leaves. McCaffrey and Milton have bright futures
