You certainly gave off that implication.

She also would have won more slams had it not been for the life threatening injury she had a couple of years ago.

As for clay, Rafa Nadal is an absolute beast of a man and physically stronger than all of his rivals yet has dominated the French for the best part of ten years. Serena isn't the only strong, powerful player in the women's game. When Azarenka powers a smaller opponent off the court no one bats an eyelid.

I'd say her success is as much down to consistency. Whereas in the men's game there have been three or four players at a significant level above everyone else for the last four or five years they have all been consistently challenging each other and getting better (as exemplified by the fact that since 2005 only one slam has been won by anyone other than Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray.) In that same period there have been thirteen slam winners besides Serena in the women's game. Plenty of players have come and challenged, but none of them have stuck around at the same level and with the same consistency that Serena has.

I disagree completely, her success is mainly down to her huge and I do mean huge physical advantage, as I say this is basically a man and a big big man at that playing in a female sport.

It's certainly not due to consistency as she can not do very much then roll up at a major and win by overpowering everybody, there's nothing consistent about that.

Regarding Nadal I disagree, he's not a beast of a man compared to his opponents at all, he's simply a brilliant tennis player, like Federer, Djokovic and to a lesser extent Murray are.

She's not a man. Grow up.

She's consistent at slams. Any athlete would be happy to be consistently at their best at major tournaments. Up until the US Open, Murray has been consistent at slams but underperforming at Masters events which was why he was nowhere near Djokovic on ranking points despite beating him in two slam finals.

Look at Nadal's physique compared to Djokovic, or Murray, or Federer. He is significantly more muscular than all of them. Yes, he's a brilliant tennis player, but so is Serena. The likes of Azarenka and Sharapova don't provide the same level of competition to her that Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and, to a lesser extent now Federer do to each other.

But I can see this isn't going to get very far when you have to quantify your argument by calling her a man.

I'm with Legend10 on this one. She wouldn't be out of place on the Ms. Olympia stage. That's a massive power advantage over 99% of the other women. I can't think of anyone who hits the ball harder, maybe Lisicki comes close.

No need for petty little insults!

Whether you agree or not to me she has the physicality of a man. You say that Nadal is much more muscular than Djokovic or Federer, well I would say that Williams is much more muscular than Djokovic or Federer.

As I said before you translate that physical advantage into a competitive 1 on 1 physical sport it doesn't matter how good the opponent is technically they have very little chance, they will simply be overpowered. Like I said earlier it can be like asking Mayweather to fight Klitschko, if the Klitschko is in the mood then Mayweather as good as he is has a tiny chance of winning as the physical disadvantage is so great.

Back to the far more interesting men's game and its so good to have Nadal back to his best but a real shame to see old Father Time catching up with the truly great Federer, who's backhand for me has been the most beautiful shot ever in the game of tennis.

Haha, maybe you should take heed of that yourself.

Besides, I'm not really interested in debating how much of her success is down to her physique (that boxing analogy is completely irrelevant), I just find it embarrassing when people start brandishing snide gender comments at her whilst being seemingly ambivalent about other strong female tennis players.

A bit odd debating something that you're not really interested in debating, and I think you're going to find yourself feeling plenty of embarrassment for people commenting on Williams man like physique, simply because like it or not that is what she has, she's built like a pretty big man.

Interesting that you describe Nadal as 'an absolute beast of a man!'

Well if Nadal is that of a man then fuck me what is Williams of a woman considering she's not far off being as big as Nadal!

She hit a 90mph backhand the other day, few of the men can hit that let alone her opponents! 3 Li Na'a put together couldn't hit that!

This is all you need to know about tennis...

Nadal is a moonballer with PED bionic knees. Nole mummifies himself with kinesio tape and goes gluten free, otherwise known as PEDliac disease, and all of a sudden becomes monster of the universe. Fed is the GOAT and King of Blue Clay. No one cares about Murray outside of Wimbledon, except Milly and Lottie and the rest of the Surrey Tea Picnic Club.

The women's tour is little more than a modeling circuit at the moment. Williams is always too injured to play at regular tourneys, but magically heals in time for the majors where she bulldozes fatigued clothes horses like Wozniacki, who plays every tournament ever which is the only reason she got to number 1. Vika is shagging the dude with the fro from LMFAO, which tells you all you need to know about her decision making skills. Sugarpova cares more about selling sweeties now than tennis. So basically the only way Serena can be defeated now is to resurrect Henin, who was the only person who could truly hang with her in the first place.

Tennis in a nutshell.

Except you're completely missing my point, whether deliberately or not I'm not sure. Pretty embarrassing for you, either way, as it was a fairly simple point to comprehend.

What do you make of Azarenka's physical stature? What about Mauresmo, or Davenport, Capriati, even Martina Navratilova? They were all physically stronger than virtually all their opponents, but none of them got anywhere near the flak Serena does.
