Manchester United is delighted to announce it has completed the signing of Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old Ecuador international has played 34 times for his country, scoring four goals.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan. I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team.”

Antonio Valencia said: “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here.

“Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can’t wait to get started.”

I'm putting a bet on Hull, Wigan and Burnley to go down.

Burnley because they'll do a West Brom and play pretty football but not effective enough.

Hull because they've been so shit since Christmas and regardless of who they sign I don't think their squad will be strong enough.

Wigan because they've lost all of the above.

Ya, it's not looking good for Wigan. Catermole might be next out and with a new manager to the league they could be in trouble. They should have a good bit of money to spend though but they'll have to spend it very wisely.

Wouldn't be so confident about Wigan. Martinez seems a pretty shrewd operator, and although he'll have his work cut out I don't think he'll be out of his depth like Ince was at Blackburn. He did remarkably well at Swansea.

Is Valencia really that special?

It's not Martinez I'm doubting. It's the players he has to work with. He is a very good signing for them but with the players they are likely to have come Sept 1st I don't think they'll stay up.

Of course, I'm not placing the bet until I've seen what the squads are once the window shuts. They may surprise me with some great signings.

I want to put a bet on Martinez being our manager sometime in the next 5-10 years.

Wigan still have a decent squad, even without Valencia.

For me Hull, Stoke, Blackburn, Birmingham, wolves and Burnley will all be weaker then Wigan next season...

I think Big Sam will get Blackburn playing his way and they'll do quite well.

I've never seen the big fuss with Valencia. I'm guessing he must be pretty good for Fergie to fork out 17-18m on him.

He is still only relatively young and has plenty of EPL experience now. With a better team around him i'm sure he will only get better. He will put in a lot more crosses than CRon so Berba and Rooney will score a load next season.

But then who is at the level of Ronaldo that they can get? What they can do is buy a few players £15mill and above and make an even better team than they have now. Top players have always left Utd, albeit usually Fergie wanting to get rid, and they have continued to be one of the best teams in Europe.

They compared his stats with Ronaldos on SSN when he was having a medical and apart from goals his overall game was better in terms of tackling, completed passes and successful crossing.

Fergie will take him to the next level. He is certainly three times the player Nani is.

Yeah i saw the stats, he puts in a lot of crosses which can only be a good thing for Berba and Rooney. If Rooney plays up front where he belongs then i can see him scoring a lot of goals next season.
