Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has revealed that he expects the club to take up an option to extend his contract by another year.

In Dec 2016, he signed a 1 year extension up to 2019.
So it is big news that his 1 extension came with another 1 year extension option.
He seems to be on a rolling contract.

Being our best defender, I'd have thought that there would be a little more urgency in getting him on a new deal (ie for longer than 1 year)... It'd be interesting to hear why that hasn't occurred.

He's 31. Top defenders can expect to play up until they're about 34/35. I'd give give another 5 year contract!

He’s 32 at the end of this deal without the extension.

If he has a big injury towards the back end of the season would his contract be extended a year? I think it’s more likely he would be offered a 2 year deal on around half the wages?
