David Villa's agent has hinted that Tottenham are considering a move for the Valencia striker.

The Spanish international is regarded as one of the best forwards in Europe and has constantly been linked with a move away from Valencia.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos is believed to be drawing up a list of targets for January as he looks to reshape his squad at White Hart Lane and he could be in the market for Villa.

Villa's agent Jose Luis Tamargo claims a number of English clubs are tracking the former Real Zaragoza ace and that Valencia would consider any offer from Tottenham

Contacted

"Many clubs have contacted me to ask about the chances of a player who is guaranteed to score goals in England," Tamargo is quoted as saying in the News of the World.

"But I am convinced if Spurs present an offer Valencia will study the subject."

Valencia are likely to resist any move to prise Villa away from La Mestalla, with the 25-year-old the club's prized-asset.

Please god!

For crying out loud why do the papers keep linking us to strikers?
I mean if they are going to make up stories they should link us to players we might actually need.

To be honest and people might think I'm crazy but I think we'd be really stupid buying him - he's not a replacement for Berbatov as per lazy journlism by NOTW as he's too short and would not be able to partner Keane!

IF Berbatov does leave (which I hope he doesn't) we should be looking at a 6 footer (e.g. Kanoute) and no way should we be replacing Keano who is quality!

We should be concentrating on. a. defensive. midfielder.

And also... and I can't remember what it's like to have one... a left-winger!!!

A centre back would be nice too!

When Jol was in charge we were linked with every dutch player you could think of but none of them ever joined. Why should things be different with Ramos ?

i don't remember us being linked with too many dutch players... the main ones i remember were van der vaart...

i remember we were quite havily linked with villa about 2 or 3 years ago when he was at Depor, the asking price was about £5.5 or something if i remember from the stories...

He was never at Depor. Started out at Sporting Gijon, joining Zaragoza for a whopping £1.87m. Then 2 years later he joined Valencia for £8.2m.

In response to the Dutch links, this was about only a few months after Jol took over:

David Villa is one of the hottest strikers in Europe, and I would be surprised if we managed to sign him.

From Marca:

Juande Ramos has denied the possible interest of his new team, Tottenham, in players who are currently playing in La Liga. "At no time have I shown any preference for the arrival of Spanish players at Spurs. What's more, I can assure you right now that no Spanish First Division player is amongst the possible short-term reinforcements for the squad."

Just an agent giving us the come-hither in the hope that he'll get a stonking cut.
