Villa's agent then added:

"Of course, if Valencia look at Tottenham's offer then they would also look at offers from Chelsea, Madrid, Manchester and Liverpool........you know the kind of offers im looking to attract by saying this so i can cream a big fat wedge off the top"

was watching my team bolivia against the argies and the commentators were saying riquelme is available for cut down 2 mil. i dont know what he has done to them, but if its something as simple as being a contract renegade then we really have to be in the market for a player of riquelmes calibre. but knowing levy, he's probably scoffing right now.

shame that.

Yup, I heard that too. Riquelme @ £2-3 million plus wages has to be worth considering.

But Riquelme would certainly not fit into Ramos' Sevilla system unless he was playing as a deep-lying second striker/AM, with just one forward ahead of him. (Ie 2 wide midfielders, 2 CMs, Riquelme and a striker).

Riquelme would be great for a player like Darren Bent. Diego Forlan scored all those goals in La Liga as a fast striker playing on the shoulder of the last defender because Riquelme is probably the best player in the world at crafting and timing a through ball. With Riquelme out of Villareal's team, Forlan didn't score nearly as many goals.

But Riquelme is an ACM (not a left or right-sided midfielder) who doesn't track back. So, he's only ever been successful when the coach has built a team to play to his strengths and cover for his weaknesses. Villareal played a pair of DMs behind him (eg Senna and Josico). Argentina played a diamond in the Copa America (Mashcerano at the base, Cambiasso and Veron or Lucho Gonzalez in CM, JRR at the tip), and against Bolivia, had 2 DMs (Cambiasso and Mascherano), with an amazing attacking front line of Messi, Tevez and Aguero. With all respect to Bolivia, that's almost an Ossie Ardiles' Famous Five (ok Four) - Messi, Tevez, Aguero, and Riquelme in the same team - which is only possible because they're all geniuses.

My point is that Riquelme's a great player, but we'd have to build a team around him. Which would probably mean: no wingers (bye bye Lennon); a couple of genuine DMs (we have none currently); and possibly only one striker. If we played two strikers plus Riquelme, our midfielders would have to cover an incredible amount of defensive ground.

That said, Riquelme is 29 years old, so maybe he's the "veteran" footballer that Ramos wants and our board are, allegedly, not sure about signing....

i don't think he is wanted by Ramos, and i don't think he is needed and I don't want him at all.

We don't have scoring problems and everyone know about that. 25-35m should be saved for other players

I really haven't watched Villa to be honest but there is one important message in this that I nearly missed.

Apparently David Villa's agent has said that we are interested, this has been reported as genuine and appears to have been taken seriously by the press and many other people.

Not very long ago it would have been reported as a joke the press would have ben laughing at us and taking the piss, they may not like it, in fact I'm sure they don't like it, but they are having to take us seriously now.

In spite of all what's happened this season they are fearful that we have come out of it in better shape and that we are looking cabable of success.

almost 100% a load of bollocks, but if we are linked then we are becoming like Newcastle, getting forwards and attacking players when other areas of the team need addressing.

Newcastle differed in the very key fact that they had Titus Bramble playing in defence..
