Why exactly does this undermine the team? He told the team in private how bad they played, and he explained in public what he told the team. Everyone, every fan, could see that Spurs capitulated that day. Do you really want a manager who glosses over an appalling display? I'd be more concerned if our manager said we played well after a second half like that.Sherwood identified faults in the team correctly, but he undermined the team by not being able to keep things behind closed doors.
In any case, he didn't 'undermine the team'. The team was winning. A lot. He won enough games to get us in the top four over a whole season.
