Aston Villa are interested in Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill has been linked heavily with Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone but wants more mobility to his midfield and £10m-rated Jenas has been earmarked.

Jenas, 26, endured an inauspicious start under manager Harry Redknapp, which resulted in him losing the vice-captaincy after their league defeat at Wigan in January.

He sought clear-the-air talks with Redknapp, who assured him of his future, but Jenas remained unconvinced and believes the manager would let him go for the right price as he looks to put his own stamp on the club.

Inter Milan showed interest in Jenas in January and Everton have been long-time admirers but both have other priorities.

Villa, however, would be a very attractive option, especially if they can keep their young stars together, and Jenas would relish the chance to join up with O'Neill.

!? most of that is rubbish.

but for £10m and if weve lined up a good replacement then fine.
  2. Michey
If £10M was on the table....take the dough and run. I'd get rid of him for £1M too but that's another story.
  3. klink
Jenas haters v Jenas likers but 1M is taking the f'ing piss.

i am a JJ fan. Wouldn't be happy if we sold him but for 10 mil I wouldn't complain too much. Provided we spent the entire amount on someone as influential as Wilson.

Dzeko, moutinho, veloso and glen johnson would be great improvement on Hudd, Jenas, Bentley, Bent, Zokora, Chimbo and O'hara. When gilberto goes officially replace him with a quality left back.
I see Valencia are in deep deep trouble could be cheeky with some bids for Villa and Da Silva.

I'm not a fan of two wingers in a 4-4-2

I must admit though Lennon and young is an exciting idea. However where does that leave modric? - a mid of lennon modric young + 1 in a 4-4-2 can't see it working too well

by all means I would be happy to see young come here - how we would get the best out of him lennon and modric, that would be interesting
  9. jetrb3
The best thing would be tell lennon and young to just go nuts and run at players with the ball ala Messi and Ronaldo. It would possibly mean that the fullbacks wouldnt have to attack as much with 2 great pacey wingers like that.

If it means keeping THUD then im fine with this! THUD gives us a passing abilty most players cant. Look at how Barca deatroyed Manure by keeping the ball, JJ doesn't do this. I think Wilson has the legs to proctect THUD so no to worrie about his reduced mobility.

There is no chance Villa will let Young go unless he is on strike, end of!

If it aint broke why fix it?

    And replace JJ with who???
  13. DC_Boy
That is one valid tactic for sure jet

very attacking wingers, more defensive full backs

however, this can leave a gap in the mid

I'm no master tactician and we haven't signed young yet, but in England it's very rare for a successful team to have two attacking wingers on the pitch at the same time consistently.

There's a reason or two for that, and one is midfield vulnerability.

The most frustrating thing about JJ is that he’s a good footballer, one who gives the impression that he’s capable of so much more, but too often he just seems content to play within his capabilities.
Fleeting images, like his two footed shimmy, drive and finish against the Goons last season, offer a rare glimpse of what he’s capable of – but serves only heighten the sense of frustration.
Having said all that he’s still the most effective player we have at getting up and down the middle of the pitch, and we miss that when he’s not playing. Certainly Hudd can’t do this, Palacious probably could but we need him as our ‘enforcer’. Sell JJ by all means, but to maintain balance across midfield I do think we’ll need someone else with a decent engine to perform his role. I suppose we could always sit him down and get him to watch some old clips of Martin Peters and hope for the best.

Ah good old Martin Peters, a tremendous player :)

but he didn't have the engine that JJ has

he didn't do too much tackling either
He was a far far better goalscorer though, and for sure I would love to see JJ add Peters' aerial ability to his skillset - but too late alas I fear

One thing that Peters was a very good early exponent of was falling over in dangerous positions and winning useful free kicks
  16. sherbornespurs
Yes - The Ghost! And you're right DC, Peters certainly didn't have the engine or pace of JJ. Despite his shortcomings I actually think JJ's quite an intelligent player, even if he does do his utmost to hide it most of the time, but there are elements of Peter's game that JJ could learn from even in todays modern, faster paced game. I don't suppose he'll ever score 4 at Old trafford, though. To this day I still wonder how I managed to get out of Old Trafford alive when Peters did it.

Actually 'D_C" Iv'e rarely seen Jenas do "much tackling" either.

Modric and Palacios in the middle would work just dandy for me.
Both Lennon and Young aren't lacking in the backtracking department, so no problem for me.
