I guy who scored 17 goals in the Swiss league, is unlikely to come in and start games next year for us. Es not ready yet. Great prospect, but we need someone good enough to challenge Kane next year and take the work load of him, and be able to play with him. That's not Embolo yet

If it was only that easy to "calculate" who's a talent or not. Stats wise you may be right but you never know which player who can make a leap in development. Many "ready made" talents have flopped in the EPL, while Leicester are full of players who "statistically" should not have been at the level they were last season.

Unless people on here watch the Swiss league regularly, then none of us know right?

Even clubs that watch a player for years and years some times (often) get it wrong. I don't watch Raifeissen Super League) though so you may be right that he's not ready... but then he may be a super talent who'll "find" his talent next season. In some cases it's really hard to guess.

Meh - might as well say a guy who is playing CM in League One is unlikely to come in and start a game for us. that'll never happen, right?

There really is no rule book on this. It's absolutely pointless using leagues to assess players. Some of the best players in the world emanate from really pissy leagues (belgian, Dutch, Danish, Portuguese). France exports more players than any country and probably produces a higher percentage of the best players of any of the major leagues, yet is the poorest of Europe's five biggest leagues.

Embolo has also played and scored in the CL and Europa league, competitions in which Basle rarely look out of place, beating Ferguson's ManU etc (not with Embolo), Liverpool (with Embolo).

Oh yeah, because it happens once it will happen every time. Right
Jesus millsey I know you think you're a realist or something but you aren't half a bring me down. Embolo made Sergio Ramos and varane look pedestrian. He's a cracking talent and could set the league on fire. Fwiw, I think he'll sign for one of the big boys

Maybe. But can we stop bringing up Alli as in every transfer. Alli is a one off. There aren't 10 Allis playing In League one right now

How many Alli's are in the current champions of the PL team? Wasn't Vardy a non-league player a couple of years ago? Wasn't Mahrez playing for a not very good French second tier team until moving to Leicester? Wasn't Kante also playing in that same second tier French league before going to Leicester?

People are bringing up Alli because his signing is relevant when people continually state we'll never improve if we keep shopping in this mystical bargain basement.

Why would a player who got 27 goals, plays for Holland and is 21, be available for 12 mill? Double that and you have a chance
Because he plays for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch league. Players bought from Holland don't usually cost as much as from other leagues, especially when they come from teams other than Ajax.

Levy would be all over that fee. Assuming he's deemed a good enough option by Poch, then €15m (less than £12m), seems a fair bit more Levy'esque than the figures been bandied around for Batshuayi.
That said, having got so close last year, and with the impending changes that other clubs are making, this is the time to make the right purchases, even if they do cost a little more. Maintain the upward momentum, don't stagnate by standing still.
